The Frontier gate agents are strictly enforcing personal size at the gate. All personal items must fit in the metal bin at the gate without any pressure or force. These agents are a hired by a third party company and receive commission for each bag charged at the gate.

Personal item dimensions are 14 x 18 x 8. If your personal item does not fit without force they will charge you $100 for a "carry on" at the gate (each direction). Pro tip: you can purchase the carry on on the frontier website for $60 instead, as long as you can make the purchase before the door closes. The gate agents don't like this because they lose their commission. Be careful this holiday season.

One day I said, no matter how much I save, I'm not going on a #### airline like Spirit or Frontier anymore. In retrospect, it feels like an important moment in my life, like a sweet sixteen or graduation. I don't want to say it's part of growing up, because I recognize that people have different means and different priorities, but still, I urge those of you on the fence to just travel on real airlines.

My parents used to fly frontier and they would check every time. They had this little roller bag that fit inside that box that Costco sold for like a week at one point.

That seems like the size of under the seat to me ...

Unfortunately over the years too many people have taken advantage of "carry on" and it slows down the boarding process. Just like sooner or later stores and air lines will have to start cracking down on "service dogs"

I think you have it backwards. Over the years the airlines decided to take advantage of people by charging for checked bags. Now I don't know about you, but most people naturally don't want to pay these exorbitant fees.

Trust me, I flew twice a month for business before COVID and saw it coming. This was a route that was always 100% capacity.

Women who would have a hardshell carryon that never fit in the overhead AND a laptop bag AND a huge purse AND put them all in the overhead taking up ALL the space.

I can't tell you how many times overhead was always full and people who were late to the gate or had late boarding had to check their bags.

Yes, it's airlines trying to make more money, but at the same time I think travelers definitely contributed to airlines changing their policies.

If flights were only 50% full, there was generally room for everyone, but for full flights it was a NIGHTMARE.

Flying is now an "experience" of being managed just like livestock.

About freaking time. People should not be packing their household belongings onto the plane!

You have to be the luckiest person in America, everyone that I know that has flown frontier airlines including me has been stuck somewhere because of plane or pilot issues. And now they are saying all customer care is automated.😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

I got stuck in Denver Co and boarded/un-boarded 3 flights in a row due to some technical issues.

If you have a connecting flight in Denver, CO, they enforce this strict personal item thing more than in any airport. Personally experienced multiple times!

Got it. Never flew Frontier so don't know how it work.

I always flew with backpack and even with a baby!
Frontier sucks, the folks who make you fit your personal item in that slim metal bin are very rude/mean and don't care even if it is a senior citizen where their kids booked a ticket for them and they weren't carrying a credit/debit card to pay for that carry on at gate when her bag was big by an inch or so and wouldn't fit in it. I have been avoiding Frontier since then!

They need to start charging by weight. Fat fcks needs need to pay more. Mainly typical Americans.
Couldn't agree more with this and was just discussing this with some people. A 350 lb guy with a 49 lb checked bag, will fly for less $ than a 120 lb woman with a 52 lb checked bag because her bag went over by 2 lbs. It's absolutely ridiculous.

I flew Frontier 4 times over the last month, and confirmed, they will check almost every bag. Two times, they said the bag has to fit with little effort. I saw them charge three passengers because they wouldn't let them try to push down on their backpack. Do yourself a favor and purchase the American Tourister 4 Kix Expandable Softside Luggage, Underseater. It fits perfectly (just don't stuff it) it holds plenty of clothes for a quick trip.
I think there's a problem....

PACKING Dimensions: 20.25" x 14.0" x 8.0", OVERALL Dimensions: 23.0" x 14.2" x 11.0"

Exactly. I could take 2 suitcases yet would weight less than some people. One Scandinavian or Icelandic airline started to do that a few years ago and of course the fats were outraged.

You completely missed my point. Why do you think that person has an overpacked carry-on, laptop bag, purse, etc, all shoved in the overhead? Hint: to avoid all the bag fees.

You might remember flights before Covid, but I can remember flights before baggage fees. And even on packed flights, I never had to worry about overhead space. Why, you might ask? Because a lot of people simply checked their bags... for free.

And to blame people for not wanting to pay for baggage seems missed placed when the airlines started the whole mess in the first place by creating all these added fees. And no one in their right mind would have thought, "Oh, that's not going to affect cabin space." But now you're so brainwashed into thinking that it's normal that you think they should also charge carry-on fees to control what's in the overhead. This is exactly how heated car seat and remote start subscription fees are going to get normalized.

Edit: I'm not really referring to budget/a al carte airlines.
