For those who care, the 9 are now more easy for end users to service and repair themselves.

The SP8 and SP9 are the same design. The SP8 is the first with the aluminum case.

The 11th and 12th Gen i7 run too hot for potables this slim and a lot of reviews say the i5 is actually faster due to thermal constraints. So the $1100 deal may have been better.
I picked the SP9 i5/8GB/256GB (MS Store + $200 back AMEX) over this one. If I didn't have the $200 CB from AMEX, SP8 i7/16GB/256GB would have been my choice.

I bought S8 i5 a month back from Costco for $899. Returning that for an i7. Regular business use and binge watching. To the experts - good decision with i7?

I want to get into coding and my wife needs something to edit photos on. Think this will work for both?
Coding will be hard on a 13 in screen and sometimes you may not have access to a monitor.
Also thin laptops may get hot when doing extensive editing, rendering.
Processor is powerful but at this price one could get a thinkpad.

This alone should be the reason to get the 9 and avoid the 8. Microsoft even put up their own official disassembly video on YouTube. Even treating the device with kid gloves, the battery will eventually need to be replaced.

I've had this model for a year. The battery life is 4-5 hours at best with MS Office use, but it literally only lasts 2-2.5 hours using One Note. For note taking, it barely gets through a 2 hour workshop, class, training session. It also gets very warm. Just be wary of it's limitations.

How can they call it a Surface "Pro" and install Windows Home? 🙄
Because regular windows meets 99 percent of all users needs.
