We have cheap model from roku, and android tv selection. And cab not provides unique features in shield pro.
I am happy with shield pro for my home theater :-P . for occasion ONN andorid tv is good enough and cute.
shield pro barely can get update.
onn. 4K Google TV can be easily hacked in to upgrade to Android 13.
Your paid shield pro for 7x~10x more and got much less.
I got onn 4K Goggle TV for $14
This just came out:
Software version 7.6.1.3 (PS7613/3686) adds support for DTS, DTS-HD, and Dolby True HD audio passthrough on the HDMI port. Amazon included a "Super Resolution Upscaling" feature in the latest Fire TV Cube, which tries to upscale lower-resolution video to look better on 4K TVs.
Looking forward for feedback on the 4K upscaling as this is my main concern for considering buying the Shield.

So every streaming device basically has a garbage UI except for the Apple 4K TV. And maybe the Roku.
So now the only advantage of the shield is AI upscaling. Assuming the cube super resolution has not matched it in this latest update.
Add the Alexa interface which works better than the Google Assistant interface, and I think the shield is on its way out.
I do not want to add a laptop to my home-theater rack, and I can not set passthrough in my laptop to HDMI port audio to receiver.
I prefer simple UI and BT connected due to intergrate into my Logitech Harmony ( yes... logitech does not sell anymore, I Do have two actually)
shield pro is/was my last resource, dang $180 3 years ago hahah, but I am fully satisfied with 2019 shield pro
DV and HDR10 (not +) are well supported in shield pro. laptop? you need to tweak ( I did in the past and never got work properly)
before jump to shield pro, I used chinese box android tv and flash with coreelec (kodi). it support passthrough but not DV ;p, only HDR10.
most spoiling feature: AI upscalling. I watched old series that are mostly 720P and 1080P, can laptop do AI upscaling?
I metioned some premium shield pro are very unique
that is my journey, simplicity and damn very small box sneaking in my home theater rack/drawer

You have no idea what you are talking about. Onn. 4k Google TV that is the same OS as the ripped off Shield pro has.
It does same do upscaling.
What hell you talking about upscaling. Onn 4k Google TV play 4k/60hz on my 4K TV/monitor, no need fake upscaling or downscaling.
Onn. Google TV can install LineageOS , mine is on LineageOS Google TV (android 13), it has nightly update available if you want. Your ripped off won't get update anywhere close

The device is 30-35% faster than the Shield, for $60 less. Use a custom launcher and there are no ADs. Use a firewall app and block any telemetry/tracking apps if you like.
You also get AV1, VP9.2, HDR10+, WiF6E, HDMI-IN, IR blaster, Hands free voice control.
But the shield does have USB3....
