These m hynix Gold P31 are top rated for being the least heat intensive NVMe drives, great for laptops. I got the 2TB version to run in my silent built desktop it's already half full and get roughly 3000 Read / 3000 Write on my Gen4 x4 slot. Used to run a Samsung 980 non-pro 1TB before upgrade.

This or Kingston NV2 2TB for $110?

For context, I will use the new drive to replace my current 512Gb OS drive (w/ 2Mb DRAM) on my Gigabyte G5 KC laptop. I already have 2TB 2.5" sata for games and Gen3 1Tb NVME (DRAMless) for photo and light video editing, so this new drive will mainly be used just for OS.

Why would you need 2TB for your boot/os drive if you already have other devices to store your games and photos to?

I would suggest just buying what you need and getting a 1TB because prices on SSDs are always coming down. No need to fomo and splurge as there will be more deals in the future. Besides, the SK hynix is the same speed as that gen 4 Kingston, produces less heat, has DRAM (ideal for a boot drive), and is overall a very reliable brand, some even say SK hynix is the best.

Which external enclosure are you all putting these in?

Got the 2TB in a TEKQ Cube (TB3/4) last time.

Near full transfer speeds, but looking for a better value enclosure.

Had to refresh knowledge on these.

For those who need higher capacity:

Looks like for $189.79 on beezomart:
SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen4 M.2 2280v -up to 7K GB/s.

Not recommended as external ssd. Somebody tested that it doesn't handle power loss very well

Good drive.

Bought the 2tb a few months ago ($160) for a XPS (thin laptop) and it stays pretty cool even when heavy processing for video conversion). Wish they'd put the 2TB on sale again....

Valid point.

My use case is music and video. Just about every electronic device is powered by
a sinewave UPS. Not going to catch all aberrations, but nothing mission critical either.
