Thought this was about the normal price for these, though I havent checked in a couple years. Have they shot up in price too like everything else?

IF you need precision work, I get it. But, I just pulled out my Harbor Freight calipers and besides that set screw, it is EXACTLY the same. 10-15 dollars a few years ago.

Yeah I was about to say, hey caliper so that's what they're called this is a tool I need, but $137? no I don't need it to be THAT accurate lol.

If you look for videos, lots of them speak to high quality fakes on Amazon. Not saying these are fakes but lots of them exist on Amazon. In a tool like this, it's important to get what you have paid for. Don't assume that Amazon only sells the real deal.

Obviously you're doing specific work with these. I have the waterproof ones and digital micrometers for engine building. The cheap ones are good for less precise work. You're not gonna spend 15k on parts and use a knock off Chinese precision tool.

Looking for a Word template now to make and print my own "Mitutoyo Certificate of Calibration".
That, along with my Pittsburg digital caliper from HF, should save me some serious money!

I would be afraid of fakes.
I'd rather get a similar one for $129.40 that is legit.

If you are in the market for a cheap one, this one is good. It has a thumb wheel with a lock, and can also display fractions .

NEIKO 01407A Electronic Digital Caliper | 0-6 Inches | Stainless Steel Construction with Large LCD Screen | Quick Change Button for Inch/Fraction/Millimeter Conversions https://a.co/d/bFZYUU0

But yeah, if you need a decent one, i would avoid amazon altogether. I have found lately a lot of their products are made specifically for amazon. So maybe not a knock off, but a lesser quality product.

No comparison between neiko and Mitutoyo. But in general neiko are good enough and definitely cheap.

I got a Mitutoyo on sale a few years back and I no longer have to do the thing where I measure the part 3 times to make sure the numbers are close. Usually each comes back off +/- a bit. The Mitutoyo is dead on just about every time.

It stinks there's not somewhere good enough between the two price wise but I can confirm there's a noticeable benefit in a set of Mitutoyo. I got my Mitutoyo 500-196-30 for $106 a few years back.

I'd think you'd see a much better design for that kind of money. They look like rebranded cheap ones that I could swap stickers on. What am I missing to be honest I don't know and can't see it. I just clicked on this thinking someone put in the wrong amount in.

Insize digital caliper fits right between the two nicely. It is decent quality and has good repeatability. It's made in China if you care. I own a dial mitutoyo, digital mitutoyo (coolant proof), digital insize and some no names digitals.

The Neiko calipers are kind of crap. If you want a decent caliper at that price range get iGaging https://www.amazon.com/iGaging-El...B001AQEZ2W

These are usually a bit more expensive because they make a trip through the US Mitutoyo calibration lab and come with a proper NIST traceable calibration cert in addition to the factory cert. If Amazon sends a genuine set it should come with an extra certificate from the lab in Aurora Illinois and a calibration sticker on the back of the calipers.

If that isn't something you need the regular ones are $121 s&s by Amazon right now.

There is no reason to spend this much on a caliper. Calipers are not high accuracy instruments in the real world. No one that genuinely needs to measure to 1/1000 of an inch is using a caliper, they'd use a micrometer instead.

The ONLY real advantage an expensive caliper has over cheap ones is better battery life.

It's nice to not have to mess with batteries when you want to use, just like cheap flashlights
