Bits&Bits [bitsbits.com] has 10% off Whiteside bits with code FOUREYES15

No, it won't magically work on a Festool Domino. Yes, I tried.

Example:
*Astra Coated* Whiteside UDC9112 Ultimate Flush Trim Combination Router Bit [bitsbits.com] originally $230 is $207 with code.

For the dude that's about to say it - yeah it's $200 un-coated directly from Whiteside but I think the coating is worth $30. Bits & Bits is the only vendor I know of that is actually approved by Whiteside to apply coatings and the way they do it allows it to still be resharpened when needed.

I think op meant trying the code to get 15% off a Domino.

I'm a big fan of whiteside bits but I've never heard of the astra coating before. It appears to be a proprietary coating that Bits&Bits applies to the bits, not something that comes from Whiteside directly. Even with the discount it adds almost 40% to a roundover bit I'm looking at, it's hard to believe the coating is worth that much. Maybe it makes more sense on some of the higher priced fancy flush trim bits.

What you wrote is correct. Apparently it results in a smoother cut and increases the life of the bit and cutting edge. I also like Whiteside bits a lot but I've never had one with the Astra. I'd like to try one a lesser expensive bit with the coating before paying the premium for more expensive cutters.

Based on the code I assume this is a promocode from a podcast Chris from Four Eyes Furniture is on. https://www.foureyesfurniture.com/ Bits&Bits has been advertising on several woodworking podcasts lately and these codes are pretty common. They also advertise on ShopSounds Podcast...their code is MORSELS15

Interesting. See post above yours and the Q and A on the Amazon Page.

Does this bit have Astra Coating?
Answer:NO it doesn't . Whiteside doesn't coat this bit. They do sell their bits to a company that adds the Astra coating.

I realize this question was posted nine months ago, but a company called "Bits and Bits" sells Whiteside bits with the Astra coating. They're a small American company worth supporting. Hope this helps you or another person who is curious.

It does not.

Not to my knowledge.

I think he meant the discount code will not work on Festool products.

That is interesting! So a third party is adding the coating. I wonder how long such a coating would last.

Exactly - it's a Chris code. Interestingly when I did the math I realized the code was only taking off 10%. I asked Bits&Bits about it and got this reply:

Thanks for reaching out, as with many companies, we have been facing rising
costs in materials; instead of raising prices, we decided to reduce our
coupon codes to 10%. Many of our partners (including foureyes) have been
listing and linking their coupons for several years which would take a lot
of time to go back and change. I hope you understand, let me know if you
have any questions.

I like the coated bits. These days I think a lot more about the cost of the hardwood than I used to and would do a special dance before routing if I thought it would even slightly reduce the chance of burning and tear out. For what it's worth, and it's worth something to me, Whiteside authorizes Bit&Bits to apply this coating so they must not think it's snake oil.

I've had this thought as well and it's a good point.

Yes, several woodworking Youtube channels have this promo all the time (Jay Bates has done several videos talking about what the astra coating is, benefits, etc). I believe around the first of the year B&B changed everyone's codes to do only 10% due to inflation, rising costs, etc.

I like the Infinity... but I'm biased as they're a stones throw from my house lol. And being a loyal customer gives me good deals.

That being said, both are ridiculously overpriced. Neither hold some superpower. I prefer Amana.

And ad far as a dual bearing compression bit, HIGHLY OVERRATED.

These seem to get used on YouTube channels a lot, and because they're $$$$$, people assume they will make some miracle in their efforts to templateca charcuterie board. Lol. But a simple upcut, bottom bearing bit is going to do just as good for $60 (and cost less to reaharpen).
