I have had this jacket for 6-7 years of occasional wear in MN and trips to Canada. If I have to be outside all day in below 0 F weather this is the jacket I grab, and it hasn't let me down yet. I've used it down to -30 F for long periods, and have never had issues with getting cold (with other appropriate gear of course). For me it's too warm/bulky unless it's very cold outside.

So I was in a Macy's the other day to look at these new Mcmurdo jackets while I was wearing my old Mcmurdo from 2006.

The quality on my old mcmurdo is vastly superior to these new ones.

They feel like they are made of recycled paper. Material feels thinner, the inner lining is basic black nylon where as mine has this nice textured lining with a design. The pockets are lacking, the fit customization is lacking, the fur feels like crap. The new zipper is thin and no where near as smooth. My old one has a nice thick, double zipper with a nice northface tag hanging off it.

North Face quality sure has taken a nose dive.

Ill keep my 17 year old Mcmurdo over this any day.

Personally feel North Face quality has gone down recently.

Marmot, Patagonia and Canada Goose seem more quality to me

I don't know, but I"m not totally convinced this is a slick deal at $280 for 650 fill power. Not saying it's a bad deal, but I think you can get this level almost anytime from other sources. FYI Dick's also has it for the same price. You can get $20 off almost anything over $100 (I think). I didn't check on this specific item, but it usually includes sale items. You have to sign up for text alerts from Dicks. You can shut them down anytime you want, with ease. I have.

I've been to Antarctica and can say this looks like the jackets we are issued, but cannot determine if they are the same quality. I did have my base layer thermals, utility coveralls, wool layer, then the jacket which absolutely kept me warm.

To those poking at the look, I get it. I think it's to best mirror what is issued there. Think of cos-play….for Antarctica…..for whatever reason I guess

This is actually an awesome jacket and a decent deal. I had one of these as a child size extra large kids, and when I grew out of that one, I bought an adult size small which was too big on me so Northface doesn't work for me anymore but if you can fit into it go for it I'll get the color that you like and you'll be glad that you bought it.
