You can do more than just repair clothes, you can also modify them. That and gear. I replaced elastic webbing on old pads that have lost their elasticity. I think I spent about $100 on my sewing machine and I recouped the cost within the first month of using it.

I don't use it all that often though, I save up projects until I have a pile of them and then I get them all done at once. I I have to rewatch the video on how to thread the machine, but the rest comes back pretty easily

The 4th photo shoes an embroidered oven mitt. This machine doesn't embroider which is what I was looking for. Ugh

Hand sewing is the way to go for such thick fabric and low volume of work. It's really not complicated now youtube are flooded with tutorial clips like that. I did the repair of my trekking pole tent (the pocket where the pole head goes split) with just the needle and the threads. The first try was terrible but I redid it and it was good (still not professional but it won't go anywhere now).

Exactly! Not knowing how the clothes are abused but that sounds really wasteful. I only had such experience with my socks ( start developing holes within a year ) and I realized I just need to cut my toe nails regularly!

By "portable" they just mean it's lightweight. It's a full-size machine. I have a similar model that I got years ago as a Black Friday refurb deal and it's still going strong. I've sewn a wide range of things on it and make a lot of my own clothes. I don't think I'd try sewing jeans, though. You'd be better off with something more heavy-duty for that.

Thanks! Code worked but I accidentally placed an order pickup instead of for shipping. Promo code doesn't work now for a new order. Do you know if I cancel the first that the code will re-activate?

P.S. Also, a curious thing happens when trying to use PayPal's Pay in 4 plan. If you check the box "Remeber my PayPal account details" during checkout, you only get the standard PayPal options for payment (Which Card,Bank, or PayPal Balance, PayPal Credit, etc.). However, if you don't check the box, you get the expected options of the above, plus the pay in 4 payment plan.

Buy a quality one at a thrift store for $10 - $20. You will probably have to go out YouTube to figure out how to use it but it wont be garbage.

The older machines are made out of higher quality materials because they had to sew together higher quality fabrics.

Nowadays a pair of khakis will melt in the washing machine.
