Most people will consider the image more than acceptable for a family room straight of the box, while serious gamers will also be attracted by the faster-than-typical lag time for 4K models. And although it doesn't offer the color accuracy, contrast, or black level a serious enthusiast would ideally want, it can also do a credible job on image quality with lights off."

At this point splitting hairs on 4k image marketing is fruitless, especially considering almost all 4k sources are currently using or capable of using some sort of image enhancing tech. Consoles do it, TVs do it, GPUs do it, blu ray players do it, so why cant projectors do it as well?
edit i was incorrect there are "native" 4k projectors for less than 10k. This article mentions a $5000 sony from 2018...so it's possible the two epsons i mentioned may be native 4k. i didn't realize they werent using the dlp chips. they use a laser light source and .74" 3lcd chips...but based on this older article they still probably use mirrors to reconstruct the image. The article explains what the usual visual perception issues/discrepancies tend to be between faux4 and native 4k and it's not pixels unless you are so close to the screen that you cant even see the entire image. The noticable image differences tend to come from contrast and highlight disparity vs actual pixels

Personally I'd wait a bit longer to see if any game changing features (hdmi 2.1) become widely adopted by budget projectors at CES.
If you play games on the BenQ projector and have a newer console then the advantages of this ViewSonic are nice, but again would very likely be overshadowed by the feature set youd get from hdmi 2.1 projectors.
The projector companies have all begun to cater to the gaming community so id expect to see many more "affordable" (sub $1500) hdmi 2.1 projectors sooner than later.

I have LG C6 TV with 3D capability that I love. That was the last year LG included 3D capability with their TVs unfortunately. Friends and family are always impressed. I am looking for a 4k projector solution under $1000 which supports SBS and haven't found any yet. If anyone has suggestions, I would love to hear from you.
This is the user guide for the PX748 projector. It only supports frame sequential as well. Look on page 40 under 3D settings. It's funny that the PX701HD(the non 4k version) has SBS support.

The specs are listed there. It seems the page shows only the resolutions for video and not for gaming. On my uhd50x 1080p240 and 1080p120 dont show up as listed resolutions in video mode, they only appear in game mode. So you have to have a console or PC hooked up for those resolutions to appear as available.

Instead it uses pixel shifting to rapidly display 4 offset 1080p signals in sequence, which tricks your eye into seeing a 4K output. All 4K protectors in this price range use this approach. There are no exceptions under $3000 or so.
