I'm curious to understand why someone would buy an entry level lawn tractor style mower at this point as opposed to a similarly priced zero turn. If you're going to roll the dice on a $2500 mower why not get one that might be significantly faster to actually mow with? Totally get the use case for higher end deere/ventrac lawn tractors, etc for slopes/attachments. I just don't understand who is buying this product. Actual question, not trying to cast shade.

2900 for a cub garden tractor?

hahah clown world
This is NOT a garden tractor. This is a lawn tractor. A garden tractor has a bigger transmission and is capable of handling ground engaging implements. A lawn tractor is a lower class. So you should get an even bigger laugh out of the price. MTD only makes junk now

cost and ztr is really overkill for some. 2 acres and up ztr is time saver anything acre under is overkill, anything over 5 and you pretty much want the go fast ztr's. Not sure but these may have more towing capacity i tow with my ztr and pretty sure i'm well well well over the recommended capacity.

I have a 2018 with 140 hours on it. Started leaking oil around 100 hours. Not sure I'm a fan of Kohler
I have a 2016 with 180 hrs. Not a single issue.

1) a proper garden tractor will cost you $8000 now.
2) Cub doesn't make one.
3) this thing is a piece of crap with a cheap transmission

These are junk. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more on a JD. Wish I did.

Ah. You are correct. Here's a link to the appropriate mulching kit for the fab deck.

Thank you for the correction and highlighting the fact that fab or non fab, the mulching kit for the xt1's renders the mower incapable of satisfactorily mulching.

If you mulch, buying this mower will most likely be an exercise in $2,900 worth of regret and frustration. I say most likely bc there are some positive reviews. I'm assuming they're cutting the driest grass on the flattest yard knowm to earth. This mower w mulch plug dumps the largest amounts of clumps on any turn and any hill, no matter the incline. It'll also dump grass into any imperfect area of your yard. Which, of course. just leads to greater issues in those spots.

It's also noted by many as a very loud mower.

Interesting. I own this one that I bought 5 years ago for 1499.00.
Cub Cadet XT1 Enduro 46 in. 22 HP V-Twin Kohler Gas Hydrostatic Front-Engine Lawn Tractor
I use the default blade it came with to mulch and I have 2 acres of property with plenty of small (and one large) hill.
I have never had any issues of it leaving clumps of leaves on my lawn.
If you cut the lawn like an idiot when its wet of course it will leave clumps.
When i think of how to mow the lawn, I think..."how would an idiot mow the lawn ? " and then I don't do it that way LMAO

Yeah, you're right I did a Google and saw some cheap ones but those don't look like particularly reputable sellers. You certainly can't get a $2400 zt from a big box retailer. So if you absolutely need riding and absolutely need new and can't spend more than $2400 then this is the lawn tractor for that scenario.

I have this exact mower, love it but it's not without a few flaws.

Pros:
Powerful, climbs hills and very rarely gets bogged down by thick grass. I let the grass grow tall once last summer (4 weeks or so) and it did much better than expected only bogging down in really thick areas
Starts every time, no problem
Easy to clean
Comfortable
Decent turn radius

Cons:
Loud as others have mentioned
Cut often or get a mulch blade, I cut often
Gas hungry
Prefers no ethanol gas (they all do so. This is not really a con) which can be hard to find

I wish I had paid this price for mine. I got it on sale last year for a couple hundred more. I'd call this slick if you're in the market.
