From the RTINGS Review

Compared to Sonos One SL
The IKEA SYMFONISK Bookshelf speaker and the Sonos One SL are similar speakers. The Sonos is smaller and has a more neutral-sounding sound profile. However, the IKEA can get slightly louder than the Sonos with fewer compression artifacts present at max volume, so your audio sounds clearer during louder listening sessions.

He means the actual surround setup, which is limited to the sound bar, two surrounds and a sub (or two subs). You can add as many of these to your house as you want, but each surround sound setup is limited.

Can't add more to your surround setup.

Ikea sonos has a crappy inferior wifi chipset compared to actual sonos. Make sure you have good wifi signal. That is why it is cheaper for a reason. But their ikea sonos products have their own use case i guess. My picture frame keeps dropping sound. These one off ikea sonos used for surround. I'd never found out if they ever drop sound unless I actually pay attention. All in all, i'd love to pay for premium if sonos actually makes something similar and drop the whole collaboration thing.

I did the hack to take the speaker hi/low outputs to my kef100s. Much cheaper than buying the Sonos Amp.

I ended up returning mine because my Sonos Move had gobs more bass that could fill my kitchen/dining room that a pair of symfonisks couldn't even touch in the same area even after adjusting sound options in the app.

To answer your question, they both support airplay and should be able to be set to the same room in the sonos app.
Thanks! I'll just save the money. The Move is awesome and does a great job filling the space already so not a huge deal.

These are great, they really blend into shelves and countertops better than the One's. They sound really nice, just be aware that they do not have the humidity resistance of the One's, so not really good for bathroom or keeping outdoors.
Shoot was ready to pull the trigger on one for the bathroom. Where did you read about the humidity resistance?

had these for two years now. Bought them for $99 back then.
I have a beam, 2 of these and a hacked sub. Use them for my TV + apple airplay for music.

I opened one of the ikea speakers and hard wired the sub and now that speaker acts as the right speaker + drives the sub.

Sounds just as good as a sonos sub. (i had a sub but returned it after learning about the hack).

I got a new pair off of OfferUp for like half the price and I'm running them with my Beam. Works well enough and might do the hack if a good sub comes along.

All those posting about the Symfonisk "sub hack" should make it clear that it's only sort of suitable for stereo applications.

It is 100% not for surround sound setups. Sure, you can use it as part of a surround sound setup, but it will NOT act as the ".1" subwoofer audio track in Dolby Digital/DTS sound track.

There used to be a hack with SonoSequencr that you could do this properly, but last I heard, the ability to spoof a Symfonisk device to be a Sonos Sub no longer works.

If that's changed then that's good news, but the hacks in this thread aren't the proper way to do it and you'll be missing out on a whole chunk of audio and experience than what you get with a proper Sonos Sub.

It is on an FAQ on the Ikea site: "No, there is no IP classification. We don't recommend our speakers for bathroom use."

If I have two of these (paired with a beam and sub) working as side speakers, does it make sense to add one more as a rear?
You cannot

I don't know how to quote everyone with questions so I'll try my best to answer some here. I have a sonos beam as my soundbar to my living room tv, two symfonisk speakers paired with the beam as surrounds, hacked the rear right one to be able to attach an external 12" sub, 2 x sonos play:1's in two separate rooms, a play:3 in my kitchen, 2x ones in other rooms, and a single symfonisk also hacked to add a Polk 10" sub to that for the screen room. Everything plays AWESOME. Beats anything Bose could do especially with ease of playing from streaming sources. The ones I have have mics built in for alexa integration and the one sl are the same speaker without mics. As far as sound goes, I cannot distinguish a difference between the symfonisk bookshelf speaker vs the play:1s nor the ones. The sonos speakers sound clearer at higher volumes to me but that could just be me. I absolutely love the fidelity of sonos' speakers. I am looking to move my beam to my bedroom and replace the living room with the arc, a sonos sub and two one sl's to be the surround system. That'll free up the other speakers move to other rooms for more all-encompassing music for the whole house. I hope this helps anyone with questions and feel free to ask any more that I haven't answered.
Thanks. This helps. Was looking to update my stereo pair of Play 1s. These sound like they'll do the job. I just wanted to add airplay 2 support to my playbar/play 1 group.

I understand sonos is great for controlling your music in multiple rooms around the house, but how does it handle multiple inputs? i have a tv on my patio, a projector with bluetooth soundbar in my living room, and then i also want to listen in my room and the kitchen and my garage. can i easily switch between inputs so i can have spotify on my phone throughout the house or each tv playing in its local speakers only? or would it be better to just put one in each room to play spotify from my phone and keep using the tv speakers if i dont want it to play tv sound throught the house? thanks!

Couldn't find these or the lamps inside of the store today even though the website said there was stock, too bad I guess, wanted an additional pair or a lamp for my room.
