I personally went for the ASUS RT-AX86S with the Best Buy trade-in for $153 pre-tax. It has doubled throughput for most of my connected devices and seems to have a better coverage than my previous Nighthawk R7000.

EDITED for further details.

FYI this is an AC (i.e. WiFi 5) router. Plenty of good AX (WiFi 6) for the same or similar money.

Not really. Cheapest 4x4 AX 5G router is currently $140 on amazon from what I could find. (TP LINK AX73)

You can buy cheap 2x2 5G AX routers, but they won't do well in dense areas.

I would argue this is a good value @ $90 USD. The upgrade pick if you want ASUS is AX86S @ 180 USD. (Same base CPU/RAM with 4x4 + 3x3 AX radios.)

Don't think you'll find a competitive $90 USD AX router that will push the same throughput at distance. (25-30FT)

As always, YMMV. WIFI IS RNG. Good luck!

Yes but it would work better as a media bridge connecting to another 4x4 5G router.

just to add to this, in case anyone considers this recommendation: the ax86u has a quad core cpu vs the dual core of the ax86s. it's worth considering paying more for the u variant

perfect for me, i just need wired gigabit capability to replace my ancient RT-N66U that would "die" occasionally. it wouldn't turn on for weeks and then it will come back to live again, so crazy. I dont need the fancy wifi6 since I'm only using it to connect to 15-year old 802.11b maybe g IP camera, and of course the basic wired stuff around my desk.

Decent router.
PSA: If you have 50+ clients (devices) it cannot handle the traffic.
