Frequently Asked Questions:

1. How can I thank my driver?
  • You can say "Alexa, thank my driver" or "Alexa, tell my driver thank you" using your Echo device or Alexa on the Alexa App and Amazon App on your smartphone to thank your driver for the most recent delivery made in the last 14 days.
2. Which delivery drivers are eligible to receive $5 per "thank you"?
  • Amazon Flex Delivery Partners and Delivery Associates employed by Amazon Delivery Service Partners who deliver Amazon packages in the United States are eligible for this promotion, and will receive $5 for the first 1 million "thank yous" received, starting December 21. Deliveries by other partners are not eligible for the $5 promotion, but we will share customers' "thank yous" with those partners. Deliveries are only eligible for this promotion for 14 days after the delivery is made.
3. What happens if I thank my driver for the same delivery multiple times?
  • You can thank your driver for the same delivery multiple times, however, the driver associated with the delivery will only receive a maximum of $5 per delivery.
4. How will I know that the driver will receive the $5 when I say thank you? Will I be charged?
  • To confirm that your "thank you" has been processed and $5 will be sent to the driver, Alexa will respond, "Glad you enjoyed your most recent delivery. Since you shared your appreciation with your driver, as a special thanks this holiday season, your driver will receive an extra $5 at no cost to you. This promotion is for a limited time only." You will not be charged anything when you thank your driver.
5. I thanked my driver in the first promotion that ended on December 8. Can I participate again?
  • Yes, you can participate in the promotion again.
6. I don't own an Echo device. Can I still thank my driver?
  • Yes, you can thank your driver using Alexa on the Amazon App or the Alexa App on your smartphone. Start by opening either the Amazon App or the Alexa App, and tap on the Alexa button in the bottom right corner of the screen to speak. Once microphone permissions are enabled, you can tap the Alexa button again and say, "Alexa, Thank My Driver."
7. What if I don't own a smartphone?
  • At this time, only customers who have access to an Echo device, the Amazon App, or the Alexa App on their smartphone can access the feature.
8. What happens once an additional 1 million "thank yous" are received after December 21?
  • The $5 per "thank you" promotion will end after another 1 million "thank yous" are received. You will still be able to thank your driver using Alexa and we will share your appreciation with our delivery partners.

I deliver for Amazon Fresh and can confirm that I got $5 for a thank you.

While I agree and sympathize with most of the unhappy people griping about their terrible delivery experiences in these posts, I have to remind you that Amazon uses many different avenues of recruitment for their drivers, we are not one unified force and should not be grouped together like that. Most of the gray van and box truck drivers are 3rd party contractors and get severely overworked, and their frustration is reflected in their work. Others (myself included) are gig drivers who use our own vehicles, and for the most part, have very chill scheduled blocks that we choose ourselves. I stopped doing big box warehouse deliveries and exclusively do Amazon Fresh warehouse deliveries due to the low number of stops per route and the extra tips. Regular package deliveries do not include tips but have a higher base pay. The system is not perfect, and most drivers do not follow delivery instructions due to the sheer volume of packages they are required to deliver a day.

Any Amazon worker actually confirm getting these extra tips?

What do they do when I say, "Alexa, my driver left my boxes at the front edge of my porch in the rain and all my boxes fell apart because they are soaked to the bone."?

I have a covered porch and space at the back against the house. Yet they leavboxes hanging at the edge of the steps, exposed to the elements and full view of the street.

I'd be happy to help their cause if they could deliver properly, but it's a rarity no matter how I spell out delivery instructions. They'll walk 20 yards to my steps but once there, won't go that extra 5ft. Can't even remember the last time one left something inside the storm door even. Just abysmal.

If I have to tip every single package delivers to my house, I would say no and purchase in-store instead. I am working hard as every other AMZ driver, and I don't get tips for doing a good job. I could not stop laughing when AMZ is trying to promote this. IMO, The tipping system just got out of hand nowadays.
The amount of salty people in this thread is astounding. Nobody is asking you to tip every time. Nobody is even asking you to tip this specific time. This is a holiday promotion by Amazon (and footed by Amazon) to reward the drivers who actually do their job correctly. You as the customer are simply pointing them to the drivers who deserve to be rewarded. You guys are not woke for figuring out that a large corporation might have ulterior motives with Alexa, every large company has motives. Take these promotions at face value and spread a little positivity in the world instead of dragging everyone and everything down to level with your cynicism.

And if Amazon can get them classified as a tipped employee, they are no longer required to pay minimum wage
I think Amazon is HQ'd in WA state. Like CA and also OR, WA pays all employees the full federal or state minimum wage. Tips are all extra. I know this is not true in alot of other states. But CA for example, employees including tipped employees all make a minimum state wage of $15.50/hr starting in 2023. But local county/city minimum wages can be much higher. Like my area of Sunnyvale/Mountain View, CA, the min wage for all employees including tipped employees is $17.10/hr and will be $17.10 + the CPI starting in 2023. So in CA and the other West Coast cities, tipped employees shouldn't be crying a river saying they are living off tips. They are making a lot more than Target cashiers or fast food workers who aren't tipped. But before you cry fast food workers a river, good ol' CA has a new state 'Fast Food Council' just created by Gov Newsom that has the power to control all things fast food, including wages and benefits for fast food workers. The council is comprised of labor, business, and some gov employees (who are pro-labor). And they had bandied about $25/hr min fast food wages last year before the council was formally created...

Amazons way to pay drivers less. Let them work on tips. Why would I tip a driver that leaves my packages out in the rain, blocks my screen door with boxes so I can't open it and have to go through the garage, or just chucks it on my porch.... never tipping Amazon drivers....
Amazon doesnt pay drivers. They contract other companies for drivers.

That was the first one, and another one started today, right? My driver just delivered 2 boxes, so i did it right away and it worked. But i noticed it only showed the first item, so i tried again and it went through again on the 2nd item.

So i think there was a slight delay and my first TY got through after the first scan, but before the second. I hope he got $10.

BE WARNED! The $5 for drivers was supposed to be free to us as customers. Instead, Amazon billed my Amazon Prime Amex card $5. So first Amazon steals tips from drivers then they steal from us customers. So deceptive!

It says "at no cost to you" in their message after you thank the driver.

Sounds like a coincidence. Check you order history and see what was purchased for $5.

I confused on this. Why would anyone tip? Your package isn't getting delivered sooner. You're not getting any kind of special interaction/service and the driver isn't going above and beyond. Sounds like a way for Amazon to not give hourly pay increase. (Work on tips)
Tru that's why we pay a premium for Prime in the first place

Hey Amazon how about you just pay your workers a decent wage, instead of milking us for every nickel and dime. We already paid a yearly subscription for the services
