Hello, I hope you're well.

Tesla is offering certain customers a $7,500 discount and 10,000 Supercharger credits if they take delivery of a Model 3 or Model Y by 12/31/2022. Check your text message; here is an example.

Yesterday, I posted about how the Model 3 RWD and Model Y will qualify for the full Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) $7,500 if you take delivery in January or February 2023 (of course, if Tesla runs promotions or drop prices in early 2023, there could be better savings then). This is better in several major ways:
  • Lower sales tax because this is a discount, not a tax credit
  • You get the discount immediately, instead of having to wait until 2024 when you file taxes for 2023
  • You get 10,000 Supercharger credits, which is valued at between $500 and $900
  • If you're financing, you don't have to pay interest on the $7,500
  • (For some people) If you didn't qualify for the tax credit due to being over the income limit, you don't have to worry about that at all
  • 12/29/2022 UPDATE: IRS published its list [irs.gov], and some vehicles will not qualify for the tax credit that starts in 2023; of note, Model Y 5-Seat does not qualify because it passes the $55,000 limit, whereas the Model Y 7-Seat does qualify because it is below the $80,000 limit.
  • 01/04/2022 UPDATE: The 10,000 Supercharger miles (which is actually 4,000 kWH) have been added to the Tesla App. Check Settings > Loot Box.
Author's Note: This is a deal thread, not a political thread or a thread for people who dislike Tesla. Please refrain from going off topic or thumbing down this thread. You have every right to hate Tesla and its CEO, but please don't thumb down a thread related to Tesla simply because of that. Slickdeals is a deal-hunting forum above all else, and I'd greatly appreciate it if we treat threads in Hot Deals as deal threads and nothing else. Thank you.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

Car maybe nice but everyone's have nightmare experience with service. No thank you!
Never had an issue with their service department. I've only used it twice. Once on site and the second time I needed it they came to my house.

Both issues were under warranty / free of charge. All handled through the app, and I have avoided an appointment by texting with service in the app and self solving.

Love my Y, but this "deal" wreaks of desperation as shareholders ask for a new CEO and sales are down.

Got a Y few days before December with no discount and could not get the $3750 or supercharger credit. Let me know if you have better luck.

I always love when companies have these fire sales and loss leaders to boost their sales revenue at the end of a quarter to reduce impact on the share price from poor numbers. Tesla's stock has been getting hammered lately, and this seems like an attempt to raise the year-end revenue to compensate.

Will the Tesla 3 qualify for the new $7500 rebate starting on 1 Jan?
As of now only sedan under 55k and suv under 80k qualifies. So only model y will qualify for next years tax rebate. Theres also an income limit too for the purchaser. Under 155k single or 255k head of income and 300k joint.

So if you're looking at a model 3, or you make too much money, now it's the time to get it.

Their margins are pretty high anyway especially when compared to other legacy automakers… Tesla can afford to reduce their sale prices and still have juicy margins. They're just using their demand levers since a lot of people want to wait until Jan 2023 for the EV tax credit.

Doubt it. The $3750 started Dec 15 and $7500 starts today. They got your money, don't waste your time, just enjoy the car.

Tesla does this all the time at the end of the year/quarter. Sure, it's pretty aggressive, but not completely unexpected.

Before the pandemic started, the same model Y car was priced under $50K. Although inflation and supply network has caused prices to increase, but based on margins Tesla still seems to be doing well. $7500 rebate will be available for a while and as competition gets fierce, prices will go down. So unless someone needs a vehicle right away, I think it's worth noting to wait. Plus I don't think many people will still jump considering the interest rates, even as the rebate becomes available in January. My 2 cents. Buy if you need it otherwise waiting isn't the most terrible idea.

I just took the delivery on December 17th for the 3750 credit on the Y. This is infuriating after having taken the leap to do business with Tesla, especially since it was claimed that the $3750 credit would last the remainder of the month..
