Hello, I hope you're well.

Tesla is offering certain customers a $7,500 discount and 10,000 Supercharger credits if they take delivery of a Model 3 or Model Y by 12/31/2022. Check your text message; here is an example.

Yesterday, I posted about how the Model 3 RWD and Model Y will qualify for the full Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) $7,500 if you take delivery in January or February 2023 (of course, if Tesla runs promotions or drop prices in early 2023, there could be better savings then). This is better in several major ways:
  • Lower sales tax because this is a discount, not a tax credit
  • You get the discount immediately, instead of having to wait until 2024 when you file taxes for 2023
  • You get 10,000 Supercharger credits, which is valued at between $500 and $900
  • If you're financing, you don't have to pay interest on the $7,500
  • (For some people) If you didn't qualify for the tax credit due to being over the income limit, you don't have to worry about that at all
  • 12/29/2022 UPDATE: IRS published its list [irs.gov], and some vehicles will not qualify for the tax credit that starts in 2023; of note, Model Y 5-Seat does not qualify because it passes the $55,000 limit, whereas the Model Y 7-Seat does qualify because it is below the $80,000 limit.
  • 01/04/2022 UPDATE: The 10,000 Supercharger miles (which is actually 4,000 kWH) have been added to the Tesla App. Check Settings > Loot Box.
Author's Note: This is a deal thread, not a political thread or a thread for people who dislike Tesla. Please refrain from going off topic or thumbing down this thread. You have every right to hate Tesla and its CEO, but please don't thumb down a thread related to Tesla simply because of that. Slickdeals is a deal-hunting forum above all else, and I'd greatly appreciate it if we treat threads in Hot Deals as deal threads and nothing else. Thank you.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

I attempt the model 3 customer order but in the financing tab on Tesla App I couldn't find the $7500 credit you referred. Could you please post a screenshot with the 7500 credit so I can follow the same proper route. Thanks!
Your delivery needs to be by end of year. If you have no delivery date, you won't see the credit.

Thanks a lot for that information. That's what I was looking for. I now have a baseline to compare financing. 5.34% seems to be on the lower end right now, but I'll start looking a bit deeper. I can't help but wonder if they'll raise that discount to $10K. I'll have to jump then. But if that were to happen, it wouldn't happen till next year.
Thanks a lot for that information. Helped a bunch.
You're welcome. Doubtful they'll raise the discount past $7500. Based on my checking of their website inventory and anecdotal evidence from Reddit, all cars are disappearing fast.

There's only 7 days left in the year, if you see a car in inventory, I'd pull the trigger immediately if it's what you're confident about getting.

I wouldn't expect any discount whatsoever, for any car delivered in January.

^^^ Correct. But if you've been assigned a VIN as of today, you'll probably get your delivery by EOY. Keep checking the app for delivery date, then you'll see the discount for the payment info.

If you owned a bakery and had people lining up to give you money for a cookie, and some guys says "hold my cookie for a couple of months while I think about buying it or canceling my cookie order" when there is a guy directly behind you in line that says I'll take that cookie right now. You sell the cookie to the guy who's ready to pay. They gave you a courtesy of 2 weeks, which is extremely reasonable. They're not dummies.

Order 7 seats model Y, they original estimated delivery Dec 22. But last week said very low chance of delivery Dec 22, and offer $3750 to pick the one available now. I picked the 5 seats on Dec 20, paid off with the discount of $3750, schedule delivery Dec 28. Today in the tesla app saw the credit pending of -$3750 (total discount of $7500). Oh well better to get the credit now instead of waiting for next year and might not get the credit due to income.

I refreshed for a couple of hours and no Model 3 Performance cars showed up within 200 miles.

So I just placed a custom order, that shows expected delivery by end of month. If it doesn't happen, I'm out $250. If it does, the $7500 discount + 10K free Supercharger miles will be nice. It was worth the gamble. I already have a 2020 Model 3 Performance.
When you put in the order, did it show a $7500 credit? Mine just shows a potential gas savings of $6600.

It will only show the $7500 discount if you're picking a car from existing inventory. If you place a custom/build order, it will show full price until the VIN has been assigned, delivery date has been set, and you finalize your financing. Which are a bunch of steps to try and get done in the next 7 days. But not impossible.

Worst case, you're out $250. I took the risk, because a $250 bet (I don't gamble!) to potentially save $7500 on a car I want (but don't absolutely need) made sense.
