Hello, I hope you're well.

Tesla is offering certain customers a $7,500 discount and 10,000 Supercharger credits if they take delivery of a Model 3 or Model Y by 12/31/2022. Check your text message; here is an example.

Yesterday, I posted about how the Model 3 RWD and Model Y will qualify for the full Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) $7,500 if you take delivery in January or February 2023 (of course, if Tesla runs promotions or drop prices in early 2023, there could be better savings then). This is better in several major ways:
  • Lower sales tax because this is a discount, not a tax credit
  • You get the discount immediately, instead of having to wait until 2024 when you file taxes for 2023
  • You get 10,000 Supercharger credits, which is valued at between $500 and $900
  • If you're financing, you don't have to pay interest on the $7,500
  • (For some people) If you didn't qualify for the tax credit due to being over the income limit, you don't have to worry about that at all
  • 12/29/2022 UPDATE: IRS published its list [irs.gov], and some vehicles will not qualify for the tax credit that starts in 2023; of note, Model Y 5-Seat does not qualify because it passes the $55,000 limit, whereas the Model Y 7-Seat does qualify because it is below the $80,000 limit.
  • 01/04/2022 UPDATE: The 10,000 Supercharger miles (which is actually 4,000 kWH) have been added to the Tesla App. Check Settings > Loot Box.
Author's Note: This is a deal thread, not a political thread or a thread for people who dislike Tesla. Please refrain from going off topic or thumbing down this thread. You have every right to hate Tesla and its CEO, but please don't thumb down a thread related to Tesla simply because of that. Slickdeals is a deal-hunting forum above all else, and I'd greatly appreciate it if we treat threads in Hot Deals as deal threads and nothing else. Thank you.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

Huh? You put the adapter on and leave it there. There is no PITA. For my car, I haven't removed mine in the 2.5 years I've owned my car.

The best option would be to own both types but most people aren't going to drop $2k+ (chargers and line installs) to use one type once in a while or down the road.
If you leave the adapter on, then you have to buy another one...as most people want to keep one in the car for road charging. Also, if your charger is outside (like mine), it can be stolen. Also, the Juicebox charger cord gets really stiff in cold weather (even LA cold!)...it becomes pretty cumbersome, and difficult to coil back up. My neighbors Tesla charger is a lot more flexible.

The charger locks on the Tesla...with the Tesla charger, there is a button that unlocks it. With the apapter, I have to get my phone, open the app and unlock it manually.

Like I said, not a huge PITA. But the Tesla charger is better if all you own is a Tesla.

Do you have to pay before delivery is confirmed?
You don't have to pay before a pickup/delivery time is scheduled. Pay before accepting the delivery.

I hope future software updates take care of that part...I use those missing features a lot 😀
As this is more of missing hardware than software, I am not sure if a software update will make it as good as having the sensors. When I notified this issue to Tesla Delivery texting phone line, they say there is a software update coming to fix the issue and they use Tesla Vision now instead of sensors. Trying their best to convince near buyers I guess.

Only you can decide. I've driven all kinds of cars, but when I tested the Y I immediately got hooked.

Tesla had already increased the price in 2 years by 10k for model 3. I purchased the car in 2021 for 39990 standard range. The car prices have come down in last few weeks and they know the bubble has burst. After 7500 it is still 2500 more than what I paid.

Your standard range doesnt have the upgraded LFP battery and they made a bunch of equipment standard now on the standard range, before you had to pay to upgrade.. so... no unfortunately you do not have the same car as people getting a model 3 today.

No.

And if you don't already have a VIN with a delivery date scheduled, you ain't getting a car before December 31st.

What happened if the delay is at Tesla's end? All my paperwork are done but no word from Tesla. Calling the support line is a joke, no one answered. Literally waited for an hour hoping to talk to an advisor. Maybe they are all busy twitting.

What exactly are you waiting on, a delivery date? If Tesla has sent you a text with your RN#, you can reply back to it with a request to call you directly.
