Hello, I hope you're well.

Tesla is offering certain customers a $7,500 discount and 10,000 Supercharger credits if they take delivery of a Model 3 or Model Y by 12/31/2022. Check your text message; here is an example.

Yesterday, I posted about how the Model 3 RWD and Model Y will qualify for the full Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) $7,500 if you take delivery in January or February 2023 (of course, if Tesla runs promotions or drop prices in early 2023, there could be better savings then). This is better in several major ways:
  • Lower sales tax because this is a discount, not a tax credit
  • You get the discount immediately, instead of having to wait until 2024 when you file taxes for 2023
  • You get 10,000 Supercharger credits, which is valued at between $500 and $900
  • If you're financing, you don't have to pay interest on the $7,500
  • (For some people) If you didn't qualify for the tax credit due to being over the income limit, you don't have to worry about that at all
  • 12/29/2022 UPDATE: IRS published its list [irs.gov], and some vehicles will not qualify for the tax credit that starts in 2023; of note, Model Y 5-Seat does not qualify because it passes the $55,000 limit, whereas the Model Y 7-Seat does qualify because it is below the $80,000 limit.
  • 01/04/2022 UPDATE: The 10,000 Supercharger miles (which is actually 4,000 kWH) have been added to the Tesla App. Check Settings > Loot Box.
Author's Note: This is a deal thread, not a political thread or a thread for people who dislike Tesla. Please refrain from going off topic or thumbing down this thread. You have every right to hate Tesla and its CEO, but please don't thumb down a thread related to Tesla simply because of that. Slickdeals is a deal-hunting forum above all else, and I'd greatly appreciate it if we treat threads in Hot Deals as deal threads and nothing else. Thank you.

I hope this helps,

Many of us are probably frustrated/pissed off with the delivery process, however, most of us probably ended up taking delivery before 1/1/2023. Instead of relying on someone to start a class action lawsuit, or a lawsuit at all, perhaps having discussion with Tesla dealership or contacting consumer support groups for a resolution to show good faith in remediating the problem. $7500 is definitely a lot of money where I would consider all of my options. Personally, I also would not take delivery/accepted the car until the $7500 issue is resolved.
Yes, I have talked with the Tesla reps and their response is there's nothing they can do about it.

Consumer groups? What do you think this slick deal community is? Trying to see if there are folks on the same boat with better proven solutions.

Class action law suits take time and energy so yes I believe it is important to keep it in people's thoughts to bring it to fruition.

The thing about not taking delivery is that then the damages cannot be quantified and sustained.

This was not true . They did an audit at 8 am . The car needed to have left the parking lot by 8 am
And also the consumer needed to press "accept delivery " on app before 11:59 pm on 12/31

I picked mine up at 6 am 1/1
But I clicked accept delivery 11:30 pm
I drove 8 hours in the rain and broke down and had to get towed to go pick up this stupid car
I agree. How to return back this car?

I realize you are pissed off, but honestly a class action probably isn't going to happen.

Even if it did, it would take years, the lawyers would make bank, and you would get something worthless like 1000 free supercharging miles. You would not get any relief soon, if at all.

It sucks, but don't stress yourself over it. You will probably get a better deal next quarter anyway. Tesla has a demand problem now and have too much capacity heading into a recession.

thanks.

seems like there is a group forming on reddit that found a law firm willing to take on the case already. like I said, i'm in no position to start or lead a lawsuit, but that doesn't mean I cannot passively join one. so what if it takes years for me to get a few miles out of this... it's better than what I got from them now. for me it's the principle of not letting corporations get away with bs. i'm good with the law firm making 30% on any settlement if that means no out of pocket for us and they get a big name win for the firm.

in case anyone on slickdeals is looking for the same... check this out on reddit

While I understand the requirement of pressing the "accept delivery", but I'm at a lost on why the need for the car leaving the parking lot. My initial guess was that the Tesla employees need to close up the dealership (understand so due to the chaotic delivery process and new year's eve), but requiring as part of the terms of the promotion seems excessive.
I'm in the car business. The car needs to be driven off the lot to be considered delivered . If it isn't you could claw back and not take the car and the finance loan will be cancelled

Ok mr big business apologist. The accept delivery option was not available to me (maybe because the car wasn't in front of me). Which are two issues on Tesla's end: one is that their app is no good, and two is that their logistics op is no good. How is that my fault?

And driving 8 hours in rain to pick up car… how is that the responsibility of the consumer when the company representative made statements repeatedly on 12/31 that the car is on the way and will get to my door?

I'm now seeing that there may indeed be lawsuits based on this bs. Let's see how this turns out in court.
They could not find your car nor put the plates on it. So if you can't press accept delivery .. this is another issue it's a Tesla logistic issue

Ah, that's why you're shilling for car sellers… makes sense now.
Are you also a lawyer? If not, I'm not going to listen to your biased view of how the car selling business works legally.

I believe it's over the price limit to qualify for the federal tax credit. Only the 7 seat Y qualifies , because it's at a higher price ceiling

While SD community can definitely help provide suggestions, but I was thinking of BBB, CBS2 On Your Side etc.. Support groups that have power to help negotiate with Tesla.

Good luck with your pursuits on the class action.
