I'm a longtime Nova Launcher Prime patron, and still use it on my S22 Ultra. They were acquired by the analytics company Branch earlier this year. Just wondering how much development will go into product improvement going forward and how much data they intend to collect about their users.

Dont buy this, its a trap. Nova sold to an analytics company. They want to data harvest you, launchers are very valuable and get a ton of info from you.
Use something like Pear Launcher instead that doesnt spy on you.
ALWAYS read up on app permissions and privacy policies before you install.

From searching SD, it looks like this has gone on sale for $1 every year in December.

Now, after being acquired by a data analytics company, it goes on sale for 50 cents.

Kinda makes a fella wonder.

I'd be curious to know what kind of data they have access to as a launcher. I tried searching at some point but couldn't find any good write ups.

it's almost inevitable isn't it. I can't trust these little guys anymore.
Its a shame. Nova used to be awesome and I got my moneys worth from the Prime upgrade installing on all my phones, used it for years. But they decided to cash in and abuse the trust of their userbase in the end.

I'll add that the nova 7 redesign from a year or two ago fundamentally changed the way the app worked and removed key functionality many of us had used for many years (specifically making it so TeslaUnread no longer worked). The main feature I liked about Nova was the ability to add notification number counters to app icons instead of just a red dot.

Thanks for the tip, any of you use this pear launcher or something similar that's not data mining?

Bought this year's ago, but didn't end up reinstalling on my last couple phones. Just didn't need it, the phones are customizable enough. The less things running in the background, the better. Not sure what's going on now with data collection but for $0.49, it's more than worth it if data collection is unimportant to ya.

I'd purchased this some years ago and just installed it on my Pixel 7 Pro specifically for the number badges. Can you recommend another launcher that has them?

Yikes. Thanks for this. I've used Nova forever also. Im curious what the changes will be in terms of what is optional reporting vs "part of the product".

Squarehome is where it's at. Windows phone had the best launcher setup by far, even all these years later, and you can pretty closely replicate it with Squarehome.

Didn't know that. Thanks for sharing that info. Time to switch to modded apps at this point

I've had prime for years but one day I tried Evie on a whim and somehow really liked it.

Ya, I'm still using Nova, but it has become shady AF. If you want to use their latest beta, you have to install it outside of the Play Store, since it's hosted on thier Discord channel. Can't get much scammier than requiring your loyal users to install thier app outside of the PLAY Store. They're obviously testing some serious data mining code on thier beta. I'm thinking of just switching to Samsungs launcher, and using KWLP app to make a quick launch home page. Screw these developers who sell their apps to scummy data miners.
