Lowe's has GE always bright c9 string lights on clearance for $10 but the $79 delivery fee is nuts. What's dumber is a Lowes store about 15 miles from me has it in stock according to their website but I'm not driving all way out there to be disappointed.
Why can't Lowe's do free ship to store for this item? Crappy system they have.

Yeah I wouldn't wait if you want stuff. Lowes corporate started marking down stuff in their stores 75% on Tuesday of last week 12/20. Just before that I went on Sunday 12/18 when it was 50%, and it was wiped out. Only few GE lights, a couple of blow up and light up lawn decor. They had some cheap quality wreaths and garlands left. People were buying the displays that were left. I talked to the store manager here in SW OH, and he said Lowes got far less Christmas stuff than they had in the past and customers had been complaining. Last year was pretty bad too before Christmas, but seems worse this year for sure. All the Lowes stores in my area are like this. Nothing left but the cheap junk and even that's sparse.

HD stores are in similar boat. Those that find anything now are likely rural stores or in a unique market. Sam's and Costco cleared out their stuff early last week, in fact they did a massive and final clearance drop on morning of 12/19 and it was gone by the afternoon. They had a TON of stuff. Manager said corporate got wise this year and started clearing out well before Christmas so people could get it and use this year. I remember seeing Clearance on holiday decor clear back the week of 12/4, albeit mild clearance %.

Anyways, hope this helps, at least others for next year. Sweet spot seems to be week prior to Christmas and you need to go every day. Set a reminder on your phone. I did that last year since it was wiped out last year before Christmas at Lowes like I said and it paid off really well this year! I got a ton of great stuff!
This is sound advice. I got lucky on hitting the 75% off at just the right time at Lowe's. Even got the 9ft snowman arch display. 😉

I always buy my Christmas stuff for next year at the end of the season when it's clearance out. Have for last 20 years. I can tell from my experience that 75% is almost impossible anymore for airblowns or outdoor stuff. Lights no problem trees no problem but if you want anything for your yard you really need to get it 50% off. My home depot has had 50% off now for a week. I went Christmas eve. They had things for the yard but 2 or 3 boxes at most. If it ever did go 75% off sure workers are calling people to come get it as it's so limited or you have that group of people that go every morning until it's 75% off. My lowes hasn't had anything for a week now and target yeah forget getting anything there.
I concur on your observations, shopping for Christmas decor has changed completely in the past 3-4 years. Stores control their inventory better and don't overstock inflatables/large items anymore; almost all of the better stuff gets wiped out at 50% off. Good luck getting any of the nicer inflatables any cheaper.

The only exceptions I've found are the more isolated locations outside of the inner suburbs.

Do these stores pull inventory and store them in a warehouse? I have been watching the green leds 100 strings for 2 months. They had half a pallet of them about a month ago, i checked in about once a week and they sold almost none if them. I went in a week before christmas and they were none left and almost all the Christmas stuff was gone. The lights are now sold out online and cannot check local stock. How convenient. I suppose they could have sold everything in a week or two but it seems unlikely. This happened last year too.

The real deal here would be to convert to Russian Orthodoxy so you'd have Christmas in January and thus be able to buy all Christmas stuff on deep discount. But then you'd have to Russians not being popular right now due to the war atrocities in Ukraine.
As a Romanian Orthodox this is completely false. We werent allowed to celebrate religious Holidays (Romania & Russia during communist dictators rule) so we had to get Xmas trees for new years etc. But Orthodox is no different than Catholic except for the fact that Orthodox pray to icons.

I think people are going HAM on the decor buying this year. For both Halloween and Christmas, most local Target, Lowes, and HD had barebones shelves before the deep discounts even started.
HD and Lowes, at least around here, have had almost nothing on sale after the season for a few years now. They seem to have gotten better about inventory and pricing to prevent the need to discount a bunch of stuff afterwards.

Got a few things 50% off a couple days ago, but there was almost nothing left. If you're waiting for anything more than 50% off, you'll be hard pressed to find anything worth buying.

I prefer Home Depot over Lowe's but we picked up a $300 fake Christmas tree at Lowe's for $75. Christmas stuff was 75% off in Fresno CA.

At 50% off I still had to go to 3 stores to get the item I wanted (airblown hanging grinch), and that was days before Christmas. Didn't think it would last to the next discount.

Russian Orthodox are different in that Xmas is in January.

Since when are artificial trees so expensive? Half off and some trees are still $400 🤣
