12" depth is fine, but I prefer 18-24" for long term garage storage. You can buy the heavy duty shelf brackets from your big box hardware store and sheets of plywood or MDF for fairly cheap. If you have a drill, impact driver, and stud finder you can make your own to whatever dimensions you want, as the big box stores will typically cut big sheets to your specifically.

I have 2 sets of these for the past two years. Very good and really increases storage ability. I got mine for $50 each two years ago. So good price now!

Same here. We hang our bikes and it works great for that plus the shelf storage. The 12" may not provide enough space to hang adult bikes though.
