This is a killer CPU with a low buy in for a build now. B550 boards are cheap, DDR4 is cheap. This processor will be relevant for years.
$2 off what I bought it for BF. Should I rebuy and return? LOL! I keed! I keed.

Love this processor. It's wicked fast!
Say no to Newegg…

Is this good for a new relatively-budget build? Or are the new CPUs better?

Only if you already have an AM4 motherboard, then yes. If you are building from scratch or from an older platform, you'd be better off buying 13600KF ($300) + B660 ($120) + DDR4. As the 13600KF is around 60% faster in multi-thread, 30% in single thread, for not much more.

The 5700x will only be ~5% faster in games only at low resolutions and only when generally cpu limited.
Only really a good deal if you already have an am4 mobo, if you do, what chip are you upgrading from?
Am4 isn't really a good platform to be buying into this late.
If your platform is dead, you might as well either buy the best gaming cpu that platform will ever have (the 5800x3d) or buy into a new platform.

For strict gaming, go with the 5600X.

I went with 5700X because I wanted the extra cores for future proofing and productivity.

Don't know if you're trolling, but hell no. 5600x > 5700x is not worth the $ and time

And I disagree with you said. It's been 9 years since my rig was updated and I was looking for a good 1440p gaming @ 144hz + productivity monster computer and I was able to accomplish it with AM4.

AM5 would've cost me nearly double and it wouldn't have been double the performance.

If you're like me and don't upgrade every 5-6 years (9 in my case, thanks a lot COVID19!), AM4 is fine!

I got my 5700X for $217 after taxes ($100 off the 13600KF) + MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus
for $79 and DDR4 64GB memory.
