The HPT after metabo stands for Hitachi Power Tool.
What makes the DeWalt a better saw. besides your preference for the brand, that is. I have both and the side positioned sliders of the metabo are far superior
That's a screaming deal for a sliding metabo

Picked up the sliding version for about $125 on clearance last year or so. Great saw for the money.

The Dewalt is a better saw, but only single bevel.

I picked up this Miter Saw. Been overall satisfied. I've only had two issues with it. The first issue is that the laser is not seeable when working in daylight. Not a big deal but didn't meet expectation. The second is when I swapped out the saw blade the mounting piece did not cinch and my machine vibrated like crazy. Had to remount and that it fixed it. Could be designed better but overall it works and gets a great cut. Came out of the box set right to, This machine gets the job done.

The Dewalt is only single bevel this dual bevel . I'd say this is a much better value compared to dewalt

I bought this same one at Lowes for $179 two years ago. It's was a great upgrade from a 10in single bevel Delta. Mounted it on a Ridgid wheeled mobile stand and I've been very happy with the purchase. Made crown molding installation throughout the house a breeze. Definitely recommend the double bevel and like the adjustable fence on this saw.

This looks IDENTICAL to my Hitachi, wonder if it's rebadged? Exact same color scheme, fence design, even positions of the warning stickers.

Metabo HPT parent company KKR bought Hitachi power tool division and rebranded the Hitachi line in 2018. Same power tools just with the Metabo HPT name now.

which sucks because I hate metabo but now any upgrades I do make me a metabo guy. ffs.

not that I'm brand specific, hitachi was just solid equipment and always won out.

I have the older version of this saw, maybe 6 years old. got refurbished. a lot of people were hitting the fence on the one side even beveling. I'm not sure what other saws do to be honest to prevent idiots, but I always make sure my line of cut clears. not sure what's different here. but good saw. my version has great visible laser. interesting they're not as visible in newer version.

looking for a slider though.

This. Performance-wise, there is no difference. Both saws cut wood great. But this saw has a 2-piece fence. If it weren't square out of the box, you can square it up and align them co-planer yourself. Guaranteed. DeWalt fence is a 1-piece design. If it weren't co-planer out of the box, then you are SOL. Return it pronto. I own the 12" slider version and I'd take it over DeWalt any day, even though all my other power tools are DeWalt, including my table saw.

I have the exact setup and purchased it on sale for $179 two years ago. Nailed a rigid miter saw stand for $99.

The saw is great and fairly heavy. Specs says 47lbs. Get wheels for your saw

Sorry to be off topic but can you recommend any guidance or training on crown molding installation? I want to try but my brain can't handle the angles!
