I want to throw this out there. if you have a simple return aka you worked one job and didnt deduct anything extra, you never need to pay for turbo tax or any software. No matter how many times turbo tax asks you to upgrade keep saying no. And if they say oh your return required deluxe because you did something simple like have employment benefits, go find another company.

Anyone got an idea if the online version ever goes on sale?

My wife has a business and all her records are in Quickbooks *online*. We bought the physical TurboTax last year and you couldn't "easily" import or sync with the online quickbooks. It took some exporting and importing, and even then it took lots of manual entry. Apparently if you want the quick click and go, you need the online version of turbo tax with online quickbooks…

I say it every year, but I think this year I'll try filing my own taxes.

Any advance? Do any of these allow you to put in your information first (trial it) before purchasing? I'm from Wisconsin, will have two W2's with company benefits, and have two 401ks.

Interesting. I got two jobs, contributed to Traditional ROTH via deduction and pre tax health benefits. Was told to get TT deluxe and I don't like it. Too expensive.

Always loved how easy Turbotax was, but once they told me I need to pay a ton extra for student loan interest deduction I never looked back. Adding everything manually to FreeTaxUSA was a PITA the first year, but it's been very friendly since.

If memory serves me correctly, with the online version of TurboTax, you won't pay for their service until you actually file the return. However, you are kinda at their mercy with what you will end up paying. It is extra to file state as well. I think last year for me the total was around $100 for both state and federal.

Yes - TurboTax will let you go through basically the entire return, and you only pay if you want when you would file.

I HAVE to use the premier version because I have oil royalties. This is a decent price for Premier.

I have a slickdeal on entertainment. Look at how much money is spent with lobbying efforts to prevent changes in allowing the government to do the taxes for you. Most nations don't require their citizens to file any type of taxes. TurboTax and H&R Block both work aggressively to keep things the same. Also, look at the net profits both of these companies make each year. total scam
