The values vary significantly (although it looks popular based on the reviews), so I hope to switch to ear thermometer.

To the credit of the Braun, it has had a very long service life so far. The covers used by Thermoscan were unobtainium for a bit during COVID. Otherwise I'd note that I've never gotten any wildly unbelievable results nor have I had the challenges I did with getting a reading using a forehead thermometer.
