If you are playing a native Oculus game, you don't need any connectivity to a PC. You could hypothetically plug in a power cable and charge while you play. Of course that limits mobility.
If you are playing a PC VR game you can connect to your PC with the cable, with air link, or with virtual desktop.
If you connect with the cable it will charge, just not very fast. This cable here has supplemental charging so it can maintain a charge better while you're playing.
Air Link and Virtual Desktop are two different methods for connecting to the PC wirelessly. Air Link is free. Virtual Desktop is a $20 app (and you install a Windows program on your PC that connects the two). For the most part Air Link seems better but Virtual Desktop offers more settings and customizations. It seems to work better with some games and some actions within games.
tl;dr You want Air Link or Virtual Desktop. Always try Air Link first since it's free... then decide if you want to spend $20 on Virtual Desktop to see if the experience is better. If network latency is an issue, neither would be great.
Games that are available on PC VR and native Oculus are often (always?) better on the PC due to the processing power of your GPU. Saints & Sinners has way better graphics on the PC for example.

Copy and paste mod.
VR modder praydog has been working on these ports for the past few months, but just launched both mods over on GitHub. We've already gone hands-on with the Resident Evil 2 VR mod ourselves. You can see some gameplay below, though take note that this is an older build.

Need to get back and would like to play Alyx.
Seems like this just allows charging quest while playing.
Is it needed to stream Alyx to Quest 2?
I know like a year or so ago there was Air Link or similar.
Desktop upstairs but want to play downstairs so need separate router (in that one mode forgot name but not router mode) and put downstairs.
Then it streams from upstairs to router downstairs and to the Quest.
Is there a simpler setup these days to stream from pc to Quest?
PC room upstairs not as big so prefer to play downstairs more open. Or another room.
This seems to tether PC and wires to charge and stream to quest?
TIA!
