Does refurbished just mean used? I assume it's not opened up and anything inside is replaced.

I'll assume they don't refurb new drives. I'd guess these are used returns like most any refurb item. I don't buy refurb hard drives but someone else might love the deal.

Yes, refurbished means used. However, refurbished also means it was professionally inspected and tested by the manufacturer and/or Best Buy techs before offering for sale.

I am taking Geek Squad certified as a marketing term that translates to "returns we checked". I'd only bite if the price is right. So that is anyone's call.

I am using a Geek Squad Certified Refurbished 1TB 870 EVO boot drive I got a while back for a good price, right now. It only had a few hours of use when I checked it.

Manufacturer refurbished is whole other level and usually like new and often with similar warranties as a new product.

It's an SSD. The only thing they would possibly inspect is the SMART readout. I'm pretty sure they just repackage these things without checking them out first. At most of they check if they power on.
