PSA: Gamestop PowerUp Rewards Will No longer work for Microsoft and Nintendo Currency by itself

I have a PowerUp membership with GameStop. I'd monthly, walk into my local GameStop and ask for $5 of Microsoft currency.

So by the end of the year I'd have $60 to use in credit, having paid $15 for the membership.

Today the employee told me that starting in February '23, you could not just buy $5 of Microsoft or Nintendo currency without something else (no mention of Sony).

He did say for example, I could buy a $10 card/code and only pay $5 for it (using my $5 monthly powerup reward). But I could no longer just get a $5 code printed out on my receipt only using the $5 reward. He said they were just told last week so this is very new.

If this ends up to be incorrect and its one wrong employee giving me bad info, mods feel free to delete. But its what they told me and I know a bunch in this community use the same strategy to maximize their PowerUp benefits.

I was told some companies were changing their policy but the manager told me Nintendo was not one. Maybe someone that works at GameStop can confirm.

Picked up my $5 eShop code on Saturday, and the clerk told me Microsoft & Nintendo were no longer going to offer $5 codes to Gamestop; he didn't know how soon that would go into effect.

So it sounds like some change is definitely on the horizon, but no one knows the exact details.

Well i guess that's too bad for those wanting that specific $5 gift card without putting extra money toward it. Paying $5 for $10 eshop, Xbox, or PSN is still a slickdeal.

I personally don't plan to renew my pro membership expiring next month. I just don't have the luxury to play game anymore.

I've been doing the $5 out of pocket for $10 in PSN credit since the $5 monthly coupon began. I definitely understand where they're coming from with this change though as the customers "buying" a $5 code once a month and nothing else are likely looked at as expendable since they're unprofitable.

I tried to buy a $5 Nintendo eshop code on my receipt today, and the store manager (who is awesome, knows me by name, and is very knowledgeable and very detailed in updating me on the latest Gamestop policies) said it is no longer an option that he can chose on the register. He wasn't aware this was changing like the rest of your guys did, but he did say that last week it worked, and this week it stopped working for Playstation $5, and this was the first time he tried it this week for Nintendo.

So I found this thread and figured I'd let you all know. Oh well... it was too good to last forever.

Anyone else able to find other slick options to use the $5 coupon on? $10 codes for $5 are still pretty great, but that is a LOT of digital currency to spend for me each year.

Do you happen to know if rewards and/or trade credit can be used toward Apple gift cards (since Apple offers games)?

Sorry, I am not sure since I haven't ever tried. If you try, let us know though.

Thanks for the reply. I know GameStop blocked Amazon, eBay and most 3rd party gc's a few years ago, but I was wondering if Apple might be allowed now since they offer a game service (Apple Arcade) which puts that currency more in the realm of Microsoft, Nintendo & Sony.

Missed this thread last month and renewed my pro membership last week of Jan. Used to use the $5 towards a $10 PSN digital giftcard. Any idea if I can get a refund on the membership if I cancel now?

I've never seen a way to cancel. Maybe call customer service? I'm pretty sure the fee is nonrefundable, though.
50% off GC isn't totally terrible though

Unable to apply the $5 rewards to the PSN gift card though. When I checkout it says the item doesn't qualify.

I am on hold with customer care. It's been 35 minutes and they said the wait time is minimum 60 minutes.

It should still work in store for a $10 code on the receipt. I'm not sure if it'll work online. I would test it but I already used my monthly plus the $5 in bonus points for renewing Pro towards a new PS4 slim the other day.
