It's amazing that Asics sells three different versions of the Excite, 7, 8, and 9. Two I can understand. But three?

Not really. Updates come out every year or two. Some updates are better than others. There just happens to be a lot of leftover inventory on the 7s and 8s rattling around. The Excite is ASICS' mass market/department store running shoe, and those models came out right leading up to and through the pandemic. Not a ton of department store traffic, and people aren't going to pay full department store prices online when they're sitting right next to the Cumulus and Nimbus on the screen for just a few bucks more.

Please can someone tell me which models are decent running shoes and which are low end budget products, given the huge price difference? Its pretty clear with other brands but asics have so many! Thanks so much in advance!

The EvoRide 2 and higher is what you should look for. I think the Evo is $48 with this discount. Any shoe cheaper than that should be considered a casual use shoe.

I concur, wore quantums all day, lace less ones yesterday, both are lightweight and comfy. Kayanos are for my workouts. So good I can barely feel my old foot injury. Phenomenal if you underpronate, meaning you wear out the outside of your shoe. Or if you have flat feet. These are their top motion control sneaker. You will love them if this is you.
