I use a thing like this https://www.amazon.com/DozyAnt-Un...ljaz10cnVl and refill my bottles outside for savings.
It's not for everyone, the safety patrol will be here any minute to wring their hands about people doing this and being unsafe. Housecat type guys might want to just buy the propane bottles at Target and have a frappe.

This one is a more reputable brand.
It's OOS for shipping and locally by me
Didn't find it available but it was a Slickdeal last month https://slickdeals.net/?sdtrk=iphone&a
Go to samsclub.com and search for mr heater big buddy. Only a store with stock will show if you search. It will not show if your selected store is out if stock. Change store to another then search again. Alternatively if you use the app it will show whether your particular store is out of stock or not. Then you can check availability by clicking on store pickup and then check availability at another store below it.

I do the same - refill the small bottles. I got the adapter from HF so it's a bit cheaper but otherwise just a brass coupler/thread adapter. Instructions can be found online on how to do the transfer, it's not difficult.
I can get a full 20lb propane refill for $16, so $0.80/lb - but the 1 lb tanks are about $13 for 2 @ HD right now - yes you can probably do a bit better than that, but that's $6.50/lb, over 8 times as expensive as the 20lb method. For that matter, propane home delivery is often even cheaper than the above - my last delivery I paid $0.60/lb.
I priced matched with Walmart to get it at the $112 price. I suggest others do the same if they want faster shipping.
Didn't realize I need to buy the adapter & hose to hookup for 20lb

I believe you either buy the one with inline fuel filter that you should replace annually or buy part F273704 which is the only one recommended for use without a filter.
