I use a thing like this https://www.amazon.com/DozyAnt-Un...ljaz10cnVl and refill my bottles outside for savings.
It's not for everyone, the safety patrol will be here any minute to wring their hands about people doing this and being unsafe. Housecat type guys might want to just buy the propane bottles at Target and have a frappe.

probably the smaller one as well as an exaggeration. "all fall"
When I bought mine, it was recommended that you turn off the bottle valve and let the heater die before turning it off. If you kill the heater and then turn off the gas, there is pressure trapped in the hose/regulator and they will fail. Not sure if it's true but mine's still working. I don't use it much but it's a huge help when I need it.
This is a best practice so that you don't have the gas in the line either between starts/stops and also for when you disconnect the line (it won't leak out).
I've always done that with grills and torches, just makes sense.
It can sit on top of a 20 or 30 lb. propane tank behind the heater. Does a good job circulating heat at the low setting in a garage.
Looking at the specs, 18kBTU ~ 5.3kW, so the unit you're suggesting and this one are comparable in terms of heating capacity; that said I have a big buddy and it's not really great for a 2 car garage. I'd have to leave it on full blast for a few hours just to take the edge off the cold.

Thats the exact fan and I run it exactly like how you do! Lol

These are just a couple, very easy to find the mishaps of refilling.
Flame king / Manchester does have refillable bottles, they use to be cheap, not any more unless you find them on clearance.
Becarefull refilling 1lbs bottles. [northwestgeorgianews.com]
again [q13fox.com]
Plenty more via simple search.
Again, they can be refilled, just be very cautious of the risk and take some time to research it so you know how much fuel to put in the tank and at what temperature and what the tank should weigh when it's nearly full.
I purchased the big buddy a couple years ago from northern tool, brand new out the door for $80 after coupon discount. While I like the dual 1lb tank option, I find I use the hose with 5-11 pound tanks most of the time when on the ice, fishing
Also, tilt and knock off/down sensor (very sensitive)
I do have one for a few years now, I got it off FB MP BNIB, I use it mainly in my winter car, parked outside full year round, to defrost windows, melt snow/ice and... warm up the cars interior and, oh boy, very pleasant before heading out.
After trying it multiple times, it just isn't worth the hassle. Under the wrong conditions, it could either under fill or over fill. And if it over fills, the pressure release valve with start spraying out.
I eventually got the hose kit for a 20lb tank. That works great. I keep my tank outside so having the hose can be a bit difficult to set up with the heater inside.
Nope. Batteries can also power the fan making the whole unit portable
