Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

With the Tesla used market at it's current state, now might be a good time to consider a used Tesla with transferable free unlimited supercharging with the battery and motors still covered under a 8 year unlimited mile warranty.

Your son needs an income of $50k+ so that he can be refunded this amount as a single guy or married filing together
don think a 50k salary filing single pays at least 7.5k in federal tax.

i think you need to be in the 70k range to be sure for filing single.

Damn, the MYP is now 57k vs 62k i paid in March 2022. 5k seems worth it for me to have the car 10 months earlier, so im not even that mad. I wouldn't qualify for the tax credit anyway due to income.
The MYP doesn't qualify anyway, as it is over the price threshhold for cars, and the only config that qualifies as an SUV is the 3-row apparently.

My experience with tesla has been, you book your car and wait about a year before you get your car. They will tell you it's at the port, batteries are taking time due to delivery issues, and all sorts of delays. I was supposed to get my car in 3 months maximum. Now I'm driving a mach-e, don't want to deal with tesla ever again.

Because BMW's electric suv (the iX) starts at $88,000 and doesn't qualify for the rebate, has worse performance and less range? BMW's i4 is a car, which starts at $55,000, has worse performance and less range.
But the build quality is a whole heck of a lot better than the Tesla!

Yes, just talk, er text, your sales advisor.

Source, picked up two Teslas out of state at my preferred location.
I live in California and was assigned an Texas vin delivered to my house. You don't need to fly there, rep should be able to help pick your vin. That said, I don't think my build was that great and am rectifying a few things. Fremont vs austin likely not a big diff

its Adjust gross income....to have a 150,000k gross adjust income...your looking at close to 200k salary.

i dont think most CA salary is 200k...most CA salary is about 70k
I think CA bay area salary is definitely not 70k, fresh grad is getting paid at least 120K base. But everything is so expensive here that with 200K you at best just living paycheck to paycheck (for a family), and yet the new EV tax credit rules disqualify those so call higher income earners, but doesn't account for differences in living cost.

In order to get ke the 7500 tax credit, do I need to adjust my withholding to be greater than $7500 for year 2023.
Or if I owe less than 7500 as Tax as I withheld more taxes out of my paycheck, will I still get the full credit as refund when filing returns in 2024.
Example
My total taxes for year 23 are 10000

Option A : I reduce my withholding to 2000 and make sure I owe IRS more than 7500 as taxes. So when I file I get 7500 as credit as I now owe IRS 10,000 - 2000 = 8000

Option B : do not make any changes to withholding. So during 2024 tax filing I withheld 9000 and hence now I owe IRS 1000 as taxes. So will I still get 7500 or only 1000 ?

Well fark me.

I've got a 2020 MYLR and I went with the 20" Inductions, white premium interior, plus FSD, and I'm over here thinking I should get rid of it and grab a new 2023 MYLR.
Big no no, you gonna take a huge hit on recent price cut on current model. Used car will be adjusted for that as well.
