Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Does it have to be 2022 tax year or can I claim the credit next year (2023 tax year)? I wouldn't meet the income requirement if it was last year. Thank you for your help
"You can use your modified AGI from the year you take delivery of the vehicle or the year before, whichever is less. If your modified AGI is below the threshold in 1 of the two years, you can claim the credit." From IRS

I'm right there with you bud. Picked mine up on the 29th of December and now this… 😣😣
Judging by the impending recession news that was going around and you decided to pull the trigger, I'm guessing you are doing well enough for this not to hurt your pocket book as much as your pride. You'll be fine buddy.

Would the model 3 Performance qualify for the $7500 tax credit? The IRS website did not include this model. https://www.irs.gov/credits-deduc...3-or-after [irs.gov]

Not sure if similar program exists in other states, but based on your income, you can turn in your old car (2005 or older) to a junk yard and receive up to $9,500 cash towards the purchase of an electric car. *Tesla is eligible now since they lowered the price.

I wish Texas had this program

OMG... there are so many Model Y inventory in OC California.
No wonder they cut the price.
Wonder if they will cut pricing again like China.
Current price is still above pre-pandemic price.
Also, they removed ultrasonic and radar sensor.

My friend recently bought Model Y which came without ultrasonic sensor and she said it annoying and unsafe to park for someone who got used to parking assist features.

Model 3 does not have a 7-seat option. For Model Y, which does have 7-seat options, both the Long Range and Performance are eligible as long as it's under $80,000.

I hope this helps,

Tesla website shows 5 seat as the only option for the Model Y performance.

Once you drive an EV, ICE cars feel too ancient and slow.
Until you are out of battery and need to charge it. Look who's slow now? EEK!

Let me say that those that don't own an EV but are claiming the numerous options there are that is as capable as a Tesla have never experienced one themselves. Charging is a MAJOR factor in owning a Tesla. I've had 4 friends that either had the volt, the bolt, or the leaf and ended up with a model 3. They've simply come to the realization that it's way nicer to charge for 15 mins nearly anywhere with population then rush finding an EVGO or chargepoint and still have to wait 2 hours to reach the next stop. So yes, lucid and Id.4 are nice but practically speaking you'll grow tired of it's charging limitations over time
The other EVs you quoted have a charge rate of less than 100 kW. Other EVs charge higher than that. For instance, my e-Tron charges at 150kW while my wife's EV6 charges at 350kW. We had the 3LR for a while but sold that last summer.

So yea, Supercharging network beats the competition, but we really only got to experience that while on a road trip. Which we did a few times a year with the 3. The rest of the charging was done at home which was >90% of the time. Road tripping with either the e-Tron or EV6 has been a breeze so far here in CA. No regrets selling our Tesla.

this is an amazing deal if you're currently looking for EV or plug in hybrids

dealers everywhere are marking up $45-50k cars to $55-65k

Tesla just undercut all the dealers markups

I hope this forces other brands to stop marking up cars and finally start selling at msrp again

Wait until you are surrounded by Tesla and still have no clue why people keep buying it. Go test drive one so you don't judge it based on the lack of information of what it is or false rumors spreading by FUD.

you do know that new ICE cars will eventually get banned everywhere. No matter how much you love it, you'll have limited options to buy one or get it repaired. No one will make them anymore, so are the parts suppliers. They will switch to EV and those gas cars will go extinct just like horse carriers & all businesses around it
