Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

Wasn't the model 3 supposed to be under 30k when it first came out?

Wait until you're at the Tesla service center with no loaner cars a few weeks after you pick up your brand new car so they can try to fix the things they forgot to do when they built it.

Honestly, changed my mind of ever buying Tesla after getting to know who Musk really was. Maybe after he is ousted from the company I'll give it a thought again.

If can't judge by moral standards when you are dropping $60k, when then?

That said, this is just personal opinion.

Donating to charity is a write off. That reduces your taxable income. A tax credit is a dollar for dollar credit against your tax bill. If you owed $10,000 you'd now owe $2,500. If you owed $500 you'd be getting a rebate of $7,000.
Not true!!! If you owed $500 you would only get $500 credit. To receive full $7500, you need to owe the feds $7500.

In China, Tesla's price has been dropped to Model Y $38,800, model 3 $34,500. Because BYD produces more, cheaper and much safer advanced batteries. BTW, BYD will sell in the US soon. Model Han under $30,000. Model dolphin could be under $20000 or less. Imagine how much Tesla will be at that time? PC plus 2 sofas n 4 wheels with bunch of AAA batteries.
This is why tesla stock has been dropping and won't recover with all of these new evs online and why Elon tries to distract by purchasing twitter.

$66k Tesla dropping in price by 30% to $46k. What is the implication of this? Are they anticipating the economy in 2023 to go down the toilet like 💩?

have you check who is the biggest oil exporter in recent years?

FYI, US is number 3 on the list, iraq is 5, UAE is 6
"According to our February 2022 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), we expect net crude oil imports to increase, making the United States a net importer of petroleum in 2022. A country is a net importer if it imports more of a commodity than it exports."

People in South Asia are camping overnight in line just for get one BYD. Europeans are ordering a crazy number of BYD. BYD blade battery will not cause fire as easy as Tesla. Much Safer. BTW, US is No. 1 in buying Chinese products in the world.

This. The EV tax credit is non-refundable. If you don't owe $7500 in taxes then the most you can get is whatever amount you do owe in taxes.

lol, Tesla sales really took a hit.
100%. My friend who works at Tesla factory can vouch for it. Also horrible customer service. I'd buy an EV from a real car manufacturer.

Interesting...you forget LaFerrari is actually a performance Hybird. Who said Hybird cannot be performance based?
To be fair, LaFerrari "hybrid" was kind of a gimmick. They added KERS for small periods of boost but it's not really an active hybrid system like the Porsche 918

Tesla is more than just Elon Musk. Do you make the same decision when buying food or your phone because of some guy working at that company? Elon doesn't own Tesla. He works for Tesla.

the money goes to all shareholders and their current & future employees. it's not all go to Musk.

My daughter is doing residency and she gets around 65k/year. I know i am not eligible. As of now she gets taxes withhold and end of year I am sure she may not owe any taxes. How do I get her to withhold taxes so that she owes 7.5k? Any help. I just placed an order for model Y. Do I register in her name ?

Also I found new one locally 100 miles away with the specs I wanted. So I ordered that one instead of doing custom order.
Her owing taxes has noting to do with any withholding.

i dont see singaporeans lining up to buy these. i can see the appeal from developing/poor countries lining up for upgrade from their bicycles and moped to a car. but in murica.. people care more about safety than anything.. you're welcome to be the first to buy a chinese branded auto with no reputation in the u.s and who know if they will do proper service/warranty work.
