Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

I own model y the past 2 years. Grown to love it. It was suppose to be bridge car while waiting for cyber truck I pre ordered. It to it for 50k base long range.

It's fun to drive. But suspension is no where near the luxury brands. Coming from Range Rover sport it really felt like a downgrade in terms of luxury and handling. The y feels like I'm riding in Honda civic at times but obviously much faster.

Wait until you're at the Tesla service center with no loaner cars a few weeks after you pick up your brand new car so they can try to fix the things they forgot to do when they built it.
my local toyota/honda dealers don't have car loaners either.. whats your logic on this?

Just so nose blind to seeing this as a perk to the rich. Until the battery range, charge tomes, charge network price and moving beyond lithium happen, this is a wealthy persons vehicle.

Never thought I'd see an overpriced poorly made car on slickdeals front page. I just can't imagine paying for the luxury of not being able to road trip.

The logic is you won't be at your Toyota or Honda dealer having your car fixed 2 weeks after you bought it like you will be with Tesla.

Wasn't the model 3 supposed to be under 30k when it first came out?
I believe that was a requirement from the Feds in order for Tesla to receive subsidies back in the day. At that time the model 3 hadn't been released. Tesla paid off the subsidies early and the 30k threshold went out the window. At least that is how I remember the situation.

My friend who works for Carmax sent me a picture of the prices of Teslas and how they've tanked in the past year. Please don't buy one. New models were selling at 60k can't sell for 39k now and they're flood. Plus Elon is a prick

even MSRP can be good deal.
I challenge you to find a 300 mile range EV SUV that is cheaper, and let's not even talk about performance factors.

if you do any sort of shopping at all, you will find this is not a normal price in this day and age.
MSRP is not a deal, whether or not one can find a comparable car.

I think Tesla has a fantastic product. But as a petrolhead, we're currently living through the twilight years of ICE, with some of the best motors ever created being released right now.

Manufacturers have all but shutdown major R&D of ICE motors going forward, so this is it. Ford's Voodoo, GM's LT6, BMW's S58, Porsche's 4.0 flat six, Mercedes Bi-Turbo V8, etc.

I know at some point in the next decade everyone needing a new car will only have electric options to choose from. Most states will ban new gas car sales after 2035, if not sooner. But until then, I'd like to still feel the vibration and hear the noise of an engine ripping to redline.
We know the feeling, Maverick.

That's when ps5 don't have enough supply. Tesla have plenty of cars to sell.
