Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

I bought a 21 prius prime le for $24k out the door in the bay area January 2021. With all the incentives, it came out to $19.5k. I thought I timed the market perfectly.

But now I feel cheated because I am one of those people that took delivery of model Y at end of 2022. I did trade in my prius prime though at tesla for $25.5k. I wish there is something tesla would give back for the people that just bought their cars but that's wishful thinking. I guess the only way is to average out the loss by buying another tesla lol
Yeah tweet Musk and ask for a refund. LMAO

Let me say that those that don't own an EV but are claiming the numerous options there are that is as capable as a Tesla have never experienced one themselves. Charging is a MAJOR factor in owning a Tesla. I've had 4 friends that either had the volt, the bolt, or the leaf and ended up with a model 3. They've simply come to the realization that it's way nicer to charge for 15 mins nearly anywhere with population then rush finding an EVGO or chargepoint and still have to wait 2 hours to reach the next stop. So yes, lucid and Id.4 are nice but practically speaking you'll grow tired of it's charging limitations over time
The charging is definitely a big thing even just coming from '5 minute fillups'. If you drive long trips regularly, you don't want an EV, period. Took me 2x as long to drive from Chicago to the Bay Area and that was 12hr days. I could have made it in 2 days doing that in an gas powered car.

Holy Si#, I just bought an in-stock Y! I haven't even driven one.

I'm not sure how to feel yet.

I was lamenting this week about how it wouldn't qualify for the tax credit unless I added the 3rd row at $3K, on a vehicle that already cost a lot.

I was just test driving a 3 last weekend, we couldn't test drive a Y, all booked up. Had to make an appointment.

I need a 2" hitch receiver for my Yakima bike rack and Yakima trailer. Can the Tesla branded hitch and light kit be installed post factory assembly?

In order to qualify for $7500 tax credit, do you have to keep the Tesla for the duration of that tax year? What if you decide to resell it during that year? The fine print said not for resale purposes but doesn't say when you're allowed to sell it.

Battery swap, $20,000... no thanks.
This was one of the questions I asked one of the senior sales reps the day my wife was looking at the car. I don't remember who I was talking with, but he had been with the company since the beginning and was telling me about their initial Model Ss that were high mileage test cars (this is a thing in the automotive industry). These cars were regularly driving from SF to LA every day nearly constantly since 2012. The cars have upwards of 400k mi on them now and all the batteries are still >70%. So battery life isn't really an issue beyond engine or transmission failure in a car. And with a 8 year 'powertrain' warranty, you're actually in better shape.

I suggest searching the Tesla Motors Club forum and for general information. Very helpful site. https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/f...del-y.304/

Here's the thing, a lot of people only own their car for 5 years or so and in that case it's pretty much fine.

Whoever's buying it used the guy that's really going to get screwed... 😂

But everyone's different. I'm the type of guy that'll drive a Honda for 20 plus years. Obviously there's no way in hell you can do that with a Tesla, The battery alone starts to go dead.

My daughter is doing residency and she gets around 65k/year. I know i am not eligible. As of now she gets taxes withhold and end of year I am sure she may not owe any taxes. How do I get her to withhold taxes so that she owes 7.5k? Any help. I just placed an order for model Y. Do I register in her name ?

Also I found new one locally 100 miles away with the specs I wanted. So I ordered that one instead of doing custom order.
That's not how it works. Taxes owed are credited with the rebate. So if you are a 1099 contractor and made 100k with 0 taxes deducted, your 2023 form 1040 would have a taxes owed portion and 7500 would be taken out.

I mean for this to be a deal you've got to be paying cash. If you're paying those type of rates it's obviously not a deal.

7 seater is additional 4k.. 53k is just for 5 seater
