Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Good deal but I wouldn't bite on this one yet. EV prices should still drop the same way how quick they went up. For smart money and if you need one, I'd look for used market since those have EVs get credits too - and should drop more considering this news. https://www.irs.gov/credits-deduc...cle-credit [irs.gov]
what used market under 25k that qualified for that ev credit ? im curious..

I'd like to convince my family to get one more Tesla, but after they heard my experience with them I don't think they will. we're not against the idea of Tesla or any ev, but I had placed an order 2nd week of November and was told that I wouldn't get the car until at least December, fast forward to Thanksgiving weekend, I was told my car was ready to pick up and I have to choose a pick up date. I hadn't finished all the paperwork, etc yet and I wanted to pick a later date, in December, but the app only allowed me to pick the next 3 days (last 3 days of November). Not wanting to call customer support and go through waiting for a human to correct an app error (or so I thought it was), I went ahead and pick up 2 days before December. December comes and they announce all kinds of incentives, and guess who didn't get any.
buy another one to dollar cost average

Picking up 2Ys, hoping to resell them when the car market skyrockets.
Good luck with that. I don't think re-selling it is worth it anymore. Used market tesla are dropping in cost and so is the price of new tesla (which pushes down the used market value even further). There is also the 7,500 tax credit, which has a further downward push

Can you actually know delivery date before placing an order? Seems like the March cutoff is relatively close.

Hmm. Looks like I wouldn't get all of 7.5k if I go this route. Another way would be transfer stock from my account ( As a father ) as gift and she sells the stock this year and there would be capital gains.
you really dont understand how income and taxes work. when you give her a gift, it is not a taxable income unless it is over certain amount ($16,000 for 2022). $16k is just one person to another, if you add your wife (assuming you guys file jointly), you'd double that limit ($32k). you pretty much have to "pay" your daughter an income (issue her a 1099 MISC or the likes) for her to claim that as taxable income.

I would never have taken delivery if I knew they were gonna dump the price $14k from its high. And the $7500 tax credit on top of that.
but you would have if there was an incoming price hike right?..
so in elon's defense.. are you going to write him a check if he raises price after the fact?

Yes, due to the weight, model 3 performance considered SUV so it qualifies.
Whew, so much bad info here.

Y Performance doesn't qualify for the tax credits at all, due to no 7-seater option.
3 Performance qualifies, unless you get the red or black paint (MSRP limit is $55K).

unless you were the first to reserve an equinox.. you'll be paying up the butt for dealer markups and a long ass wait list for reservation and those equinox wont be 40k for starter

just take a look at ford lightning.. within just a few months base went from 40k to 56k LOL
Yeah the F150 lightning is the biggest shitshow. From $40-$46k I kind of understood, but not $46k->$56k!!! No way I'm following through with my reservation 👎👎👎

As if this is going to have resale value. The build quality sucks, service sucks. I've never seen people line up for headaches like this. And ugly? Who TF thinks this is a good looking car? It's a good looking Prius, I'll give it that.

There were more than a few at Carmax last year with low miles. But my concern is polar vortex impact to charging outdoors and should there be a battery deep charge cycle count because mileage doesn't tell the full story anymore.

Oh, hey, that's the exact same day I picked up mine... lol. For the most part, I've made peace with it. I was reading about how since last week, recent Tesla car buyers in China have been protesting because they're in the same position we are, as Tesla dropped prices on their cars in China. I've been thinking about it, and although it sucks that I missed out on saving ~$12,000, I was happy when I bought it at the price I paid, and I should be happy now.

Take care,
Tofu Vic
Amazing follow-up post from you.
We come across so many situations in life similar to what you are facing within 2 weeks of one of your biggest purchases. And most people will get sad, depressed and angry in those situations. You are in great frame of mind and your statement is so true.

If one was happy when a certain event happened there is no reason to let go of that happiness if in follow-up something changes.

it's hilarious that there are so many people complaining about it being overpriced or "not a deal"

are you joking? wake up

there's NO other EV or plug in of this size and feature set around the $53k mark anymore

No, non-Tesla EVs/plugs are not sitting rotting on lots, they're all marked up like crazy and flying off the lots still. The rav4 prime XSE is marked up $10k from their base of $46k+mandatory packages. Most dealers don't even get 1 per month, large dealers get 1 or 2 per month and they're all presold and/or marked up.

All the hyundai dealers around me mark up the EV/plugsin $8,000+

For the model y specifically, this is the deal of the year (or last several years)

$53k BEFORE 7500 rebate, assuming you qualify, makes it so much cheaper than any comparable option

tesla's charging network is just icing on the cake

get real

As a Model Y LR owner since 2021, I only have one sentence for those who's STILL on the fence:

What are you really waiting for?

(The prices are more likely going up than going down when the line gets too lon, likely very soon).
