Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

The price says $54,490. Is the deal over?
Not over. You have to add destination and order fees.

But everyone's different. I'm the type of guy that'll drive a Honda for 20 plus years. Obviously there's no way in hell you can do that with a Tesla, The battery alone starts to go dead.
I do that with all of my cars--still have my 1990s Japanese ones too. And I expect to be able to do that with the Tesla as well. I don't see the battery dying due to just use inside of 15 years.

I wasn't charged any sales tax. I paid $80 to transfer plates from my previous car. Only thing I paid that was expensive was for the Metallic grey paint $1k and $750 or $800 for destination fee.
You will sales tax when you pick up the vehicle.

Is this a 'refundable' tax credit, meaning I can still get that $7,500 even if I don't owe any taxes?
I missed on the first-time homebuyer credit when I bought my house because I didn't owe.
Is the first time home buyer credit still applicable?

what you talking about, 5 seater is under 55k now to get 7.5k. do customer order you will get the rebate
When I go to build a 5 seater model Y, it STARTS at 55.9K. I don't know why as I'm near Austin. Anything in stock is around that price. 7 seater falls under the price brackets, but I don't want to spend even more on something I...quite frankly don't need.

I picked up my car almost 3 years ago are you for real? They don't charge tax for EV cars in my neck of the woods.

If you take delivery before March…..someone please pin that March message to the front page!
yes, to be guaranteed of 7500. Post March no one knows, it could still be 7500 or 3750, or they re-work Model Y to make 5 seater qualify for SUV. Who knows. But if you want 7500 guarantee better take it before 3/31.

Folks read the eligible $7500 tax credit. It cap at $55k anything above that you are disqualified. The post with the guy bought his car in december for $60k+ does not qualified for $7500.

Haha. Superbowl pricing I guess. Tesla should have been this price or lower all along. Musk played the customers and they happily gave away $10,000.
Could say the same thing about Apple or even other car manufacturers that adjust the price regularly due to 'new model'. Ever wonder why car makers keep changing the model every 3 years at great expense? Because people pay.

shouldn't be, if you select 19" wheel and no fancy color it will be 52.9k.

Ah I selected black paint and the tow hitch. That was my issue.

Still...I'm debating if I actually need the new car or not.

Most of the electricity in the US as you know it comes from gas and coal, so for this to ecologically make sense, you would need to have solar panels or have a nuclear/windmill and other electricity sources.
That's simply not true.

An EV is cleaner than an ICE car, regardless of where the power comes from.

it gets cleaner STILL the more green the power grid is of course.

But even if it was burning oil at the power plan to send you electricity, that's more efficient (MUCH more efficient) than burning it in a bunch of individual gasoline engines where far more of the fuel is wasted as heat.

Quote from DevanteWeary :
Wait so these don't come with the self driving features without paying extra? I thought that was half of the point of these things h!
They come with basic autopilot... (it will steer within its own lane, and maintain speed and distance in that lane).

It caps at 80k for SUVs, like the 7-seat Model Y

If you want the more advanced features you have to pay for them (either EAP or FSD-you can check the website for details on what each of those includes and what they cost).
