Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Dumbest question may b but let me try - Do Tesla price match if they drop the prices in 30 days. Those who took in Mid December like me it's a big difference 15k. What options do we have in all seriousness.
do you write elon a check for $15k if he raises price by that much? asking for him

I bought my car not because I thought it was going to hold value but because I planned on driving it for a really long time because I really enjoy it. I'm glad they dropped the price, even though it will likely only be temporary, more people will get to enjoy their new Tesla like I have! Best car I've ever owned by far.
thats the spirit.. enjoy the car.. ignore the doomsayer who cant afford ev and are stuck with trash can on wheel ice from the 90s/20s

Wow we really reaching deep on finding things to hate about Tesla. This is so dumb I have no way of responding. Model Y came out 2019, how is that 7 years? In fact, that's shorter than what Apple is keeping it's current iPhone design.
The design of the Model 3 was unveiled in March of 2016. The Model Y is just a raised Model 3 with a hatchback. Both designs are stale. Some people don't care but personally I would rather get the new design than buy such an old one.

I wish that was the case. I bought mine on December 30th. Sucks, but nothing that anyone can do about it. The price is the price.

I bought a chevy bolt recently. Total price was around 30.5k. I get the 7.5k tax credit from fed, 2k from Cali and 1k from local gov incentives. So total cost is 20k. My income is around 60k so my purchase definitely falls into your definition and I definitely agree with it.
You made an excellent purchase and an absolute no brainer if the vehicle suits your needs - even more so if you get free charging at work and don't need it for long road trips.

Regarding the IRS tax requirements (using 2022 as an example, the 2023 for shoud be finalized in 2 weeks) -

From the Wiki, just "now":

In addition, your modified adjusted gross income (AGI) may not exceed:
$300,000 for married couples filing jointly
$225,000 for heads of households
$150,000 for all other filers
You can use your modified AGI from the year you take delivery of the vehicle or the year before, whichever is less. If your modified AGI is below the threshold in 1 of the two years, you can claim the credit.
...
you can't get back more on the credit than you owe in taxes. You can't apply any excess credit to future tax years.

So, see
https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf
Form 1040 2022 U.S. Individual Income Tax Return
Department of the Treasury—Internal Revenue Service
OMB No. 1545-0074

Your AGI: 11 Subtract line 10 from line 9. This is your adjusted gross income
Your income: Line 15 Subtract line 14 from line 11. If zero or less, enter -0-. This is your taxable income
Tax on your income: 16 Tax (see instructions). Check if any from Form(s): 1 8814 or 2 4972 or 3 <fillin>

Focus on the amounts on Line 11 (AGI) and and Line 16

Notice:
What you PAID the IRS is not important for this exercise.
What REFUND you get from the IRS is not important for this exercise.

I, myself, expect the finalized 2023 IRS Form 1040 to be very similar to the 2022 IRS Form 1040: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-dft/f1040--dft.pdf

That is my thought. Taxes owed is what we should be concerned with, right? The taxes that have been withheld would/should result in a tax return to amount to the $7500? I'm single and below $150K. But still at $120K. That has to result in taxes owed of at least $19,000. So I'm good to go, aren't I?
Obviously, I don't do my own taxes!
look at your 1040 form line 16. must have over 7500 there to take advantage of full ev credit

It's funny to think people like this were "environmentalist" and all about the cause until their political feathers get ruffled. But good for you, stand your ground and don't buy an EV or a mega corp running dirty ICE engines. Back to horses... Wait the animal rights...

Note: CEO to Ford gm and Walmart donated to the bad elephant people...I guess you won't be buying EV from them or shopping at big blue either.
be careful not to strawman yourself to exhaustion.

Not entirely sure if this is a temporary drop... Like I have said before the Y is now consider 10-15k more than the bolt all things being the same (aka you pay a premium of 10-15k over the bolt for this model Y).... that's something people can stomach but had it been as before (aka roughly 23 to 28k) over the bolt or other electric car, I can see that they are gonna have a hella a time trying to sell this. 28k is not a small amount to pay a premium just because of the brand.

Placed an order on M3P after the wife approved. Anyone have details on the wall charger? I did not purchase it part of my order and will either try to get it at delivery or afterwards. My Questions are

I have 2 x 240V (50A) NEMA 14-50R outlets in my garage already.
It was installed by electrician when my home was built.

Since I have the outlet what professional installation needs to be done for the wall charger?
Are there any better wall chargers that the Tesla one or do you recommend the Tesla wall charger looking for Level2 charging as minimum.

Lastly has anyone tried trade in their ICE car to Tesla?

ice trade in is plummeting due to impending carvana bankruptcy.. tesla will give u fraction of what current market private buyers will pay

elon basically hit the reset button to equalize the car market right now.. other automakers with ev are now in a very bad position.. tesla 3 starting at 43k and mylr at 53k before incentives.... hard to beat
