Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

still too much. i would love to buy an EV, but prices are still too much for vehicles that can't get 400miles range. I will wait a couple more years. I believe Lucid is testing a 500 mile vehicle, but we know that car will be super expensive considering their cars are over $100k already.

The sales might have slowed due to macro global factors, but this chart defies the claims that sales are dropping, and there is not demand.
Tesla's annual production increase by 47% but their sales increased around 40%.
Their sale are increasing but manufacturing is out pacing the sales.
Tesla usually do not have inventory or have very little but now there are consist listing of inventories you can purchase right away.

Current price reduction is mostly to due with less than expected demand. Outside of US sales are decreasing. Telsa's China sales were down 21% end of last year and other non-US markets had similar sales figures.

Another reason is possibility of facelift / new model change happening soon.
There are rumors that facelift or complete model change of Model 3 will be released in China this year or early next year.
That means Model Y will get same treatment as well.

US will follow after China due to China's Giga factory having much more flexible production line and they will probably try be the test bed for new production line and parts.

For S and X, they are upgrading radar and other sensors to improve FSD.
Telsa had FCC filing last year, which is public record.
They need to get rid of all the stock parts they have in their manufacturing line.

So if you order a custom one it's unsure if you'll get before the cutoff date in March? It doesn't specify if cutoff date is early or late March

well, i'm not poor, just don't think it's worth it at this moment. maybe down the road. maybe when NIO finally cracks the U.S market, then maybe NIO will drop prices for their cars to get more people to buy and be competitive with Teslas.

Jokes aside, I remember 5 or 6 years back, Hyundai had this promotion test driving their car gets a $100 visa gift card. I remember that because we went to a dealership nearbuy and did the test drive, but they won't sign the paperwork for the gift card because we weren't buying a car from them.
You didn't even to go! There was a browser issue that showed the dealer codes in the URL or somewhere else. I did those for a few years. Subaru, too.

You get the VIN near the end of the buying process, basically when your vehicle is nearing delivery.
Thanks.

I am hoping by removing USS, Tesla is planning to provide a 360-degree view (you can also say this is an ALL-VISION solution) soon. Otherwise, you are going to see a flood of complaints on TWTR showing all kinds of incidents/damages caused by NOT having USS for all new Tesla cars.
There is no true all-vision solution for any Tesla you pickup today. Quite simply, there's not enough cameras / coverage in the spots and angles where you need it. You always need one in the front bumper, because the 3 forward cameras behind the windshield today have a blind spot due to the hood. The two cameras on each side (in the turn signal and the B pillar) don't have coverage of the front fenders. The rear camera is fine.

Some are speculating that a refresh will have additional cameras mounted at the headlights to cover the front fenders and bumper, thus providing a 360-view in lieu of the ultrasonic sensors.

I guess if batteries get cheaper, and more importantly lighter, then anything can happen.

But 300 miles is plenty for most anyone. Wasteful to be dragging around all the cost and weight of a huge battery on you average <50 miles daily use. A PHEV is a better option in many cases, but it seems they are costly to produce as very few OEM are going this route.

The average new car price is $48k in the US in 2022. After rebate the Model Y is cheaper, potentially much cheaper depending on state/local rebates.

I can tell you the income of an average new car buyer in the US is much less than $150k AGI.
