Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

Absolutely right. There are some awesome EVs coming between now and 2025.
At this point, and seeing this thread rile everyone up to buy a Tesla, it seems like a great time to buy some TSLA instead of a Model Y. Lol

I have purchased 4 Tesla's already, 3 Model X's and 1 Model Y and I am extremely happy with all of them. I would highly recomend the Model Y. After the 7500 tax credit you will drive the car for 2-3 years and will most likely make money on it

Donating to charity is a write off. That reduces your taxable income. A tax credit is a dollar for dollar credit against your tax bill. If you owed $10,000 you'd now owe $2,500. If you owed $500 you'd be getting a rebate of $7,000.
EV credit is not refundable, will not get a check from IRS

The better return for your cash comment.
Buying/leasing a Tesla is absolutely not - not the most "efficient" ev car, so driving one is like throwing cash out the window.
My comment was regarding whether to pay cash for a car vs financing. Nothing to do with Tesla

Maybe stupid questions, $7500 will be lost if Tesla car delivery day is later than March? When should I pay full or complete loan for my purchase? Is it On the delivery day or before?
7500 is the sum of 3750+3750. At least you will get 3750 because vehicles are made in north America.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic
Thanks for your info. I just ordered a grey model Y for $53,990. With $7,500 tax credit, it would put the price at $46,490 plus tax.

Fast fact... Electricity production currently contributes 27% of the greenhouse gasses. Transportation including planes, trucks, and cargo ships contribute 16%. Manufacturing cement, steel, and plastic contribute the most at 31%. Growing things like plants and animals exceeds transportation at 19%.
There's also an interesting study on power delivery, efficiency, and cost. Wind and solar will never be cost effective enough to power manufacturing. Nuclear is the best hope for efficient, affordable power. Coal defeats the purpose of electric vehicles.
The goal of all of this is reducing GHG.
The world uses roughly 5000 gigawatts per day. The US uses 1000 gigawatts per day.
There is a huge price to pay being an industrialized leader.

Keep in mind most of the people in this thread trashing Tesla and electric vehicles in general have never driven or owned one.

Some honest Tesla feedback from someone who has owned one since 2018:

We bought one of the original model 3s back in summer 2018. We didn't buy it because of any political or green agenda, we bought it because we hate paying for gas and felt the price was comparable to ice engine vehicles we were considering at the time.

We also bought it to offset the cost of gas on our truck that I use to tow my boat.

We loved the car from day 1. Super fun to drive, and we were blown away by the features and minimalist design. Has it been perfect? No, we had a few quality issues but nothing major. We've had to bring it in twice for noise issues (rattling / squeaking). There was an odor issue with AC first few minutes after turning it on. The only routine maintenance we've had to do was 2 tire replacements and replacement of a 12v battery (not the main battery). We've had the car in VA for half its life and now in NY. Battery degradation has been minimal. Charging on road trips is easy and non-invasive with a little planning. We still fight over who gets to drive it. Our kids love it too.

We'll be sad to see it go because we're upgrading to the Y as a result of this deal.

Don't let someone who has never owned or driven a Tesla form your opinion - or an asinine politically motivated opinion. Electric vehicles becoming a political talking point from radicalized people on both the left and right is ridiculous. FWIW, not that it's anyone's business but I'm a moderate who leans conservative and not the bleeding heart far left liberal everyone assumes I am because I drive and electric vehicle.

Looks like other manufacturers are (like VW) taking advantage of the section 45W (Inflation Reduction Act) loophole for "Commercial" vehicles EV rebates since leased cars qualifies for the $7.5K rebate under it.
Tesla has not reacted yet but this loophole will be useful for folks above the AGI income threshold. Would be even better if they structure the lease like how they used to do it before they took away the buy back options once the lease is up.

Why do we need to take the delivery by March , can we order today and take it later after March. Why does Tesla say it affects the 7500$ credit. Can someone explain this
