Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar β€” which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" β€” in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

If i go to a dealer what are the chances i can get any models with the full self driving add on for 55k
Very, very, very low. You are more likely to get a color or wheel upgrade for free than you are a 7 seater or FSD upgrade for free.

Where do we get best rate for auto loans ? I have a car almost ready to pick since I got from existing inventory. I see Tesla offers around 5.5 APR. I assume we can shop around for better rates.

You're leaving out: January orders qualifies for $7,500 tax credit. So that's still a 10k+ difference.
You are right and that is why there are people who bought at the end of December who are upset. If I were in that eligible group then I would be way more upset about the $10,000 potential savings that I missed out on by taking delivery two weeks ago.

I think those who bought at the end of Dec thought the $7500 would be the same as the fed tax credit that was going to be available after 1/1/2023. And, for those of us who knew we were ineligible for that tax credit, it seemed like a good way to get the savings. I didn't think that Tesla would reduce the prices to be even lower than the $7500 but in retrospect I guess Tesla had to in order to get under the caps.

This sounds like if we purchase it now, claim it by april for our 2022 return if I'm reading it right.
In no way does your excerpt say that; to be clear you can not claim a purchase this year on your 2022 return.

The income limit can be attributed to your 2022 return.

Do Not Buy! I owned a tesla and what they do not tell you the significant increase in insurance costs. Do not even buy tesla insurance cause if you get into an accident you will get screwed. Not to mention horrible customer service and horrible designed cars. There are no loaner cars for you from tesla. Oh phathom braking!! Imagine going 65 miles per hour on highway and the car decides to break for no reason. Do not believe me watch videos of it. Oh in winter you are getting significantly less miles for each charge.
This. Imagine driving normal freeway speed with ur child in the back car seat and all of a sudden ur M3 brakes out of nowhere 😳 scariest thing ever. Even my 3 year old asked "what was that" and I couldn't explain, I was just in shock and grateful that the car didn't go out of control.. very traumatizing. And don't even get me started on the Bluetooth "keyless entry." πŸ˜’ works less than 50% of the time, no matter how many times they send someone out to "fix it." Last (that I will mention but certainly not the only problems) major gripe is the stupid door handles - from experience it's not very accessible for those who have hand/thumb strength issues, and the chrome handles on the older models get burning hot in the sun. I hate our Tesla. First world problems much. And also one more thing, my boyfriend who drives the car to work daily, was once rear ended on the freeway. Due to the impact the car shut down completely I guess to prevent any battery explosions. But I don't think it's particularly safe to also be stuck, completely dead weight (no pun), in the middle of a freeway lane in Los Angeles in rush hour. Teslas can make fart honks though, right?! πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½

Lots of new Tesla full self driving hardware changes are coming. Buying now is braindead imo. Maybe they updated older cars... Maybe not.

Do your research.

With all due respect. I'm a highly educated person with a PhD in physics and I personally know Twitter employees. I make informed judgment. I'm also tired hearing rhetorics like "you are only reading what the media want you to read" like we are all idiots. If we don't read media and use our own judgement then we will be only getting our information either from conspiracy or fantasy. If you look at folks who work with you, how many do you think are incompetent? In my case, 80%. Do you think they should all be gone and drive a Uber of deliver food instead? Who is going to consume to keep the economy going? Maybe we do let go a few now and then, but not 70%. This CEO handles his employees like tools, his action is damaging his own business and people who work for him. I won't ask any one to boycott Tesla, but I also want people to know my concern and that I'm not a maniac.
LMAOLMAO Allow me to be the first to say, I am highly impressed by your education. Who am I fooling? Certainly not you and your high education. You undoubtedly know I was rolling my eyes and chuckling like the other 99.99% of people who read your post. You may be good with equations, but you are obviously clueless in the business world. Generally speaking, labor cost is the highest expense of most businesses. Cutting the fat is the correct thing to do. If you feel some sort of retirement Shangri la is needed for certain employees, then feel free to make one available. In today's labor environment, anyone who wants to work can get a job. If things are that horrible at Tesla, employees are free to walk. Tesla's employees are exactly that! Employees, and little more. Elon is a paycheck and they are employees. It may sound heartbreaking to you, but deal with it. Welcome to reality. That Pollyanna world you dream of is only in your head,

If you are talking about quality, should not mention Tesla in the same sentence. Fit and finish on a Corolla is better than a Tesla

Stop calling this junk M3, that name is already reserved by a decent vehicle.
