Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Right, but you need to pass some savings to high income buyer or else what's their incentive? So you might end up with a few hundred bucks in your pocket after all that work. Keep in mind, tax will be paid twice in this arrangement.
At a 6% sales tax, there's still $4200 available to split. 50/50 split leaves each party with $2100. Seems worth it to me.

Not sure about the mainstream ones as they still have 'maintenance' for some reason.

But on our Tesla, literally added 3 bottles of windshield wiper fluid and changed back 2 tires--since getting it in 2019. It's an absolute DREAM for maintenance. I have lists of stuff that has to be done to all my other cars and it's never ending.
Might want to change the cabin air filters. You can get them directly from Tesla for $34/set.

But yeah, in 3+ years of ownership, I just changed the cabin filter and rotated tires.

Let's keep the conversation to a minimum. Stick to helping each other get slickdeals. My question is - what dates are people getting for delivery when they are customizing their order? Are the model Y getting the 4680 batteries and newer comfy suspension? Do I request or can I request for a build from Austin? TIA

Only for the yuppies! Elon is a joke, company is a joke! Look at the bad reviews for Telsa, people get locked out of cars and replacement batteries that no one can afford.

Try liking tesla coming from traditional sedan such as Panamera GTS for example. LMAO
Take my m3 performance any day of week vs 3x cost for virtually same performance Panamera.

Next time try the Model 3 Performance. The standard Y is equivalent sportiness to a base-mode X3 (i.e. barely sporty).

As a former BMW E92 M3 and F80 M3 owner, the Model 3 Performance is a more fun car to drive than what was previously considered some of the best mid-sized performance cars you could buy.
Just sold my 2022 Model 3 Performance because I didn't find it very fun to drive.

Yuppies can afford Tesla but not the battery (while German dude is on 650k miles on same li-ion)? None of that tracks.

What other maintenance would you have done on a 2019 model year car? A few oil changes?

FYI for all the soon to be new Tesla owners, an awesome app is Plugshare which shows you EV charging locations. You'll be surprised at how many free level 2 chargers there are. When I drove to Phoenix to visit family, my charging there was essentially free because I used a public garage with free charging while working from a coffee shop.

Charging is something to definitely think about before you get the car. Superchargers can be busy, cost more when you need them, and be slower than you need them to be depending on what you are charging to and how busy the location is. With that being said though, most newer apartment complexes have chargers that will charge at 10% per hour, so you can fully charge overnight. We had these in all our apartments before we bought our home and charging wasn't even a thought--just come home plug in and that's it. Car was always charged and ready to go. Now that we're in our own home, we do have to make supercharger trips, wake up early to get the cheap rates, and need to expand our power panel to be able to use our charger at home since our panel is only 100a. Luckily, my office has some chargers like what we used to have at our apartment so I can charge at work for less than I could at home.
This is not true. There has never been a wait at a Tesla SC. Cost depends on time due to tier time of use. But it it's still cheaper than gas. Please don't post any false information.

Lol u don't own a Tesla. Don't need the app. The car has it built in their MCU system. And you wont want to charge at those free places. They are only 8.4kw speed. Slow AF.
