Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Obviously you aren't an actual enthusiast. Enjoy your Tesla.

I think that is the key - enjoying the car for their individual purpose. To each their own.

Most folks just need a dependable car for commute, errands, and occasional long trips. It doesn't need to be the smoothest or most fun ride, the fastest, or the sexiest car on the block. Whatever suits individual buyer -- driving habits, taste, life style, and finances. The buyer is responsible for due diligence, and responsible for the buying decision, without worrying about what others might think about his car choice, certainly not the views and judgement of strangers on a user forum. For those who want to buy a Tesla or ordered one, congratulations, enjoy your new car. For those who hate Tesla for whatever reason, we get it, we heard you, now move on. [not targeted to any specific individual; just some general observation Smilie]

Does the $250 order fee count toward the purchase price? Anyone know?
No it doesn't, it's a standalone fee.

Every time I jump into my ICE vehicle I see a bunch of tesla fanbois sitting at the supercharges with bored faces waiting for that extra 5% to make it home. I wonder how many of you guys in this topic do exactly that.
All of them on road trips, and they'll tell you it doesn't add any time to the trip and by the time they stop to take a piss the car is charged when in reality you have to stop for 30 minutes every 2 hours of driving due to the way the chargers are spaced apart and due to the fact that the car charges a lot slower once it's above 50% state of charge.

I have tesla. we do not like it.I replaced another EV and because of hight trade-in value it was easily justifiable. We use it as commuter. Drives like a brick, rattles and squeaks.
That said, it is fine as around the town car, but it is far from been special. With the EV credit, seems like a good deal overall.

They are on road trips to grocery store. And while waiting for the car to charge to 80% to make it back home they are being productive in this exact thread spreading the world about the best in the world luxury super car model 3 for $37k.

Except I didn't make it out to be anything, other than a really great value at 52k, to which you obtusely apple to orange pigeon hole with some unknown track result. I like driving my car to LA (from East Bay), why is it not good for this? Lots of car enthusiast reviews give it great rating, for obvious reasons.

After using fsd for 6 months, absolutely under no circumstance order that piece of crap. It's more stressful using fsd than without. I don't see it ever going full fsd.

Yes. If you have something that you can sell for a gain that will increase your tax liability, you can do that. However, keep in mind that even if you're in the 40% tax bracket, you'll need to earn an additional $18750 taxable income to be able to generate a $7500 tax liability.
You'd be income ineligible by the time you got to the 35% bracket.
