Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

No it doesn't, it's a standalone fee.
And anything not permanently attached to the vehicle is excluded. That includes accessories and software.

Except I didn't make it out to be anything, other than a really great value at 52k, to which you obtusely apple to orange pigeon hole with some unknown track result. I like driving my car to LA (from East Bay), why is it not good for this? Lots of car enthusiast reviews give it great rating, for obvious reasons.
It's good for that… but a Civic or Accord is equally good for that use at half the price, and they can go on road trips without tons of wasted time charging. The gas savings don't justify the price difference and the car doesn't have any "luxury" options that set it apart from the lower cost cars… so what's the benefit? If you like the straight line power that's fine but that doesn't justify the cost increase in my book.

Not sure about the mainstream ones as they still have 'maintenance' for some reason. Confused

But on our Tesla, literally added 3 bottles of windshield wiper fluid and changed back 2 tires--since getting it in 2019. It's an absolute DREAM for maintenance. I have lists of stuff that has to be done to all my other cars and it's never ending.
I'm envious! I just spent half a day trying to replace a thermostat on my Accord using YouTube and some basic tools. Still didn't have enough time to test it! I'm seriously considering an electric car as my next ride.

Nope. I just shopped around. Hbu? I bet you post pictures of your "M3" on IG on a daily basis?

So electric cars don't brake? Do you realize that AWD EV has 4 engines instead of 1?

What kind of gas savings are we talking about when gas is $3/gallon?

What wasted time?? I stop at Kettleman, take a dump in a clean bathroom, buy a latte, walk out and car is ready. By your logic, go buy a Nissan Versa or Honda Pilot. Gas stations are beneath me. Dance14

Just as I said above… you're one of the people who likes to say the car charges in the time it takes you to take a piss. Try going on an actual road trip. You'll add HOURS to your trip compared to stopping for gas.

Would not be consistent with their prior policies... usually it is applied to the purchase price of the car at delivery.

Dude, go drive 911 and then come back talk about your excellent handling in a 2 tonn corolla.
ICE AWD will never touch electric AWD bro. It just won't. Esp in rain or snow. Guarantee no one is racing a 911 vs a snowmobile like you can a Tesla

Literally I'm not. Im the guy that says the car is lvl 3charged by the time I poop & order a latte, easily a 30min endeavor. Why are you in such a hurry? You probably spent all day on here changing not a single mind. Lol

Yeah could just charge off 110V outlet in that case, don't even need the 240 V 4 prong outlet
