Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

i just tax loss harvested a shit load of losses back in december for 2022, so much so that i didn't even make shit last year lol. can i still get this EV credit?
No, you can't. If you are loss harvesting, your effective tax is too low to claim this. FWIW I think Tesla missed the window to gain market share against real car companies. Porsche and Ford have superior options for me. Everyone's tastes are different of course. Good luck.

This sort of makes me feel cheated. I took delivery on New Year eve. Basically, my car depreciated 14k in 12 days.
You're rocking a new Tesla Model Y. A little gratitude

Hah Champ, I see you are still continuing on ignoring the fact that the made up BMW maintenance list tried to pass off as Factory Recommendation includes a 90K mile replacement of a component that doesn't exist on BMW engines.

Yeah buddy those are gear fluids with special additives to work with particular DIFFETENTIALS. There's no such thing as AWD fluid, this is why the two differential fluids aren't interchangeable. Here's generic version of the latter "AWD" fluid.....not surprisingly it's called differential gear oil https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/AIC3410300

Spanking you around has been fun, but I'm getting tried of shooting fish in the barrel. So I'm off to finding more stimulating things to do.
Hey Chief, I see you are a true Me can hack. Go ahead and put differential oil in a Haldex AWD unit and note these important little service bulletins

Unlike differential oil, which lubricates; the Haldex oil is very specific and promotes friction between the faces of the multi-plate clutch setup.

The Haldex oil is a non-lubricative oil to promote friction of the clutch plates and using any other oil can result in a total loss of drive from the rear effectively converting your car into a front wheel drive.

Tell me again, you must be a mechanic because you have a lift in your garage.......LoL

And I have a set Snap-on wrenches. Guess that qualifies me too.

Gratitude? I work for the money to buy it. It wasn't free , but thank you for allowing my Tesla to depreciate 14k in two weeks. I really appreciated it.

It's the tax credit that people are worried about

Also you can only physically lower so much
There were many articles stating that Congress may not be able to nail down the specifics of the Federal Tax Credit regarding the origin of the battery by march. That means that March may not be a hard deadline. Come the beginning of March if Tesla is not meeting performance goals they may lower the price a bit or offer the same 15k supercharger credit. When my wife bought her Tesla last year, it was $40k and qualified for CVRP. Tesla automatically processed her CVRP for $1500 and she didn't need to submit any paperwork. From what some users are saying, she should have probably been given $2000 from CVRP.

My friend says the 7.5k credit is given to leasing consumers upfront by Tesla but their calc doesn't suggest that. According to the IRS, it's up to manufacturers to pass along this savings.

Can anyone confirm?

We went ahead and pulled the trigger. Model Y in blue with the tow hitch. Went ahead and financed with Tesla to streamline things, but will hit up one of the credit unions offering 2.75 to 2.99% once the dust settles. Now I'm on Amazon adding accessories to my cart (floor/cargo mats, center console organizer, Spigen matte glass screen protector (works wonders in my Model 3).

It does indeed, and I am surprised. I thought the order fee was equivalent to the "doc fee" that traditional dealers charge. I see the $250 I paid at the time of ordering, adjusted from the final price.
Thanks for the info. No sales tax plus $2k credit? That's like a $5K to $6K savings. I wish I lived in NJ......

1)Which used cars didn't drop fast 22 onward & 2) which cars spiked higher than Tesla in 2021? Lastly (3), why does YoY $ used car noise matter so much to Tesla thread crappers? It can't be you're paid to sow negative sentiment because there's likely not a single person dissuaded by slickdeals thread crappers. In fact, you're more likely just helping Tesla sell more cars where any publicity is good.
