Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Have you ever considered that there are some cars where you don't have to click multiple buttons to turn on steering heating?

This bullshit is that voice control makes any kind of sense when you are in a car listening to music and talking to other people is just that - bullshit.
thats some ugly interior design.

I've supercharged 4 times in 5 years, who cares about supercharger rates. It's about home electricity rates.
Same for me. I charge at home. I can count the number of times I have used the supercharger in 4 years of owning a Tesla on one hand.

If you cannot charge at home, then yeah, maybe the numbers do not look as good for you.

Neither did I.
Over 3800 posts here, should I read them all or just go to bed.
I don't think SD should become a "discussion" board to this extent.
Yeah, I know just move along.

i see model 3 also qualifies for 7500 tax credit. Did Model 3 performance also drop in price too?

if i had 2022 fed taxes of 10,000 and i paid 9,000 through my paychecks, do i get a 8,500 refund then if i buy a tesla which qualifies for the tax credit? assuming i made below the qualifying income limit

What is disingenuous is promoting non-working things like robotaxis, falsely named FSD, and false timelines that get baked into Tesla's stock price. He is selling dreams that do not exist but charging for it.
As a Tesla car and stock owner, I used to disagree with this sentiment. I am no longer in that camp. While Musk is not Trevor Milton. He does share many qualities with Milton.

Apparently tesla owners neither do math, no economics. No worries, I'm here you enlighten you guys.
I think I finally understand where the disconnect is here.

He doesn't understand that Tesla's production capacity is increasing, and therefore the fact that they had more demand than production before the price cuts and the fact that they cut prices to increase demand are not in any way at odds with each other.

I'll say it again: Two new factories, both in the early stages of production, each of which will be producing over 1 million cars per year once they fully ramp up.

I looked for months and could not find a dealer willing to sell at MSRP. It may depend on your market, but it is not false information.

The Model Y is very enticing, as it is now cheaper than the Rav4 even at MSRP.
Exactly, same here. Most Rav4 primes were going for 49k+ in my area. I just ordered the Model Y.

Donating to charity is a write off. That reduces your taxable income. A tax credit is a dollar for dollar credit against your tax bill. If you owed $10,000 you'd now owe $2,500. If you owed $500 you'd be getting a rebate of $7,000.
Its not refundable. If you only owed 5k in taxes than youd owe nothing. You're not getting $2500 back

There are subsidies for oil industry, farmers, churches... on and on and on. I don't hear you complaining about them. If we get rid of all of them, then we're playing on a level field.

I do happen to think that subsidies for this that are good for society are a good thing. And I see electrification as a good thing for all of us. We should not be burning fossil fuels and dumping that garbage in the air, for all of us to breathe.
"I don't hear you complaining about everything else the government subsidizes" is a worthless and disingenuous argument when those other things are not the subject of this discussion.

He's absolutely right that subsidies are a huge problem in general. This particular tax break however is one of the least objectionable (and far less costly than many), so that needs to be kept in perspective.

I'm entirely in favor of ending ALL subsidies.

Ive never looked into these tax credits, but now that the OP posted the details - If you quality for the tax credit (AGI filing), you cant afford this, or at least are not in a position financially that should purchase a $50k+ vehicle.
This thread is full of some *extremely* dumb statements like this one.

My girlfriend is in the market for a new car. As a head of household she makes about $210K/yr AGI. Below the $225K limit for full tax credit. She could pay cash for the model 3 without much consideration.

$44K list - $7.5K IRS credit - $2.5K Oregon credit = $34K.

This is regular ICE car price territory. If you factor in the fuel savings, it would be stupid to buy a comparable ICE car instead for the same amount of money.

She can *easily* afford the Model Y as well at $10K more. And that is what she is planning to buy.

I make less than her and I have owned a Tesla Model 3 for 4 years. Easily one of the best purchases I have ever made.
