Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

This is indeed a great deal and I would have certainly bought one if we were under the 300k income limit. I am glad you all are so keen on buying it - dealerships have been ripping people off the past year and all the increased sales of Tesla 3/Y will help normalize prices from other companies sooner. F*** you honda/toyota/others.
Yep, we had a deal to buy a Chevy Bolt, but the dealer screwed us at the last minute so we walked away, and are going to buy a Model 3 instead.

I have ordered Model Y 7 seater and delivery date is between Feb and April. If it delivered in April, will I still qualify for $7500 Fed incentive or the delivery need to be before March 2023?
If you take delivery in April, I think you'd qualify for AT LEAST $3,750. The other half depends on battery sourcing/composition IIRC.

It looks like california buyers may benefit by waiting until Feb 28. Right now we get $4,500 CVRP rebate + $7500 tax credit. After Feb 28, it may be $7,500 rebate plus $7,500 tax credit for a total of $15,000 discount.

Summary of February 28, 2023 updates:

Applications must be submitted within 90 calendar days of purchase or lease to be eligible for a rebate. Previously this was stated as 3 months.

In addition to the standard CVRP rebate, consumers with household income less than or equal to 400 percent of the federal poverty level are eligible for an increased rebate amount of $5,500 (previously $2,500) for BEVs and PHEVs, and $3,000 (previously $2,500) for FCEVs. This amounts to:

$7,500 for fuel cell electric vehicles (previously $7,000)
$7,500 for battery-electric vehicles (previously $4,500)
$6,500 for plug-in hybrid vehicles (previously $3,500)

Thank you for your reply. Seven seaters are not in inventory list. If I don't qualify for $7500 I would like to go with 5 seater and the delivery date for 5 seater is before March. Whom should I contact to know this better.

There are subsidies for oil industry, farmers, churches... on and on and on. I don't hear you complaining about them. If we get rid of all of them, then we're playing on a level field.
Quote from SharpArm7549 :
"I don't hear you complaining about everything else the government subsidizes" is a worthless and disingenuous argument when those other things are not the subject of this discussion.

He's absolutely right that subsidies are a huge problem in general. This particular tax break however is one of the least objectionable (and far less costly than many), so that needs to be kept in perspective.

I'm entirely in favor of ending ALL subsidies.
@Cheema You clearly know nothing about me but do feel free to run your mouth out of your abundance of ignorance. Subsidies have long been misused and abused and I'm NOT in favor of them. As @SharpAM7549 wisely pointed out, the topic was solely about Tesla, a 'luxury item', btw, given its position in the car market and the plethora of more affordable cars available to all. But, hey... Welfare for all, why not!

@Cheema, you also made some equally interesting comment about you supporting Electric? Do you know where the very, very VERY VAST MAJORITY of all electricity in this country (and the planet!) comes from? Fossil fuels. So, you're consuming fossil fuels by juicing up your car on electricity. That's how it works in the real world. Does that help you sleep at night, believing your support 'electrics'? Now factor in the battery production and disposals, which is an exceptionally toxic, polluting affair. Feel the GREEN! /smh

I took delivery for a Model 3 LR at the end of December 2022 and I chose to use ACH bank transfer through Plaid to avoid the ~ 3% service charge for credit/debit card use.

Yes can be combined. They are separate program. You just have to apply through PSEG EV program. I got JuiceBox from Costco. It's great so far but that PSEG EV program application was a bit of a PIA. Took a few weeks to get all sorted out. Good luck.
I just ordered my juicebox 40 hardwired ($650) for my Bolt purchase on Jan 2nd. Getting a free install from GM for that. So tempted to replace my other ICE car with Model Y but I can wait a little for sensors to come back...
Either way I wil try to apply to pseg to cover my remaining $400 for the charger after the NJ 250 rebate

As per my understanding, If you don't get the delivery by March 31st, then you wouldn't qualify for $7500 tax credit.
But the IRS website doesnt show any such deadlines. The deadline only listed on Tesla website. So honestly, I dont know.
