Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

requires more effort on buyers' part but people can still get MSRP on the popular ICE cars. Even more so now as the market is changing

Bought Tesla Y 2023 and so disappointed. It is crazy noisy on Freeway. It doesn't have a parking assistant. The display is not tilted. No Carplay support. Rear view camera is horrible. My Honda CRV 2017 is much better for half of the price. My wife ask me to return that garbage can, but tesla removed the 15 days return policy.
Lol no offense but you might be the first person I've ever heard prefers CRV over Tesla. I'm not even sure how these 2 cars are comparable. Did you even test drive or sit in Tesla before you buy? No tilt display or no CarPlay is not something new. Like should be immediately obvious if you sat in one before you bought. Does your CRV have side camera?

Question about insurance. I live in a state that Tesla offers their own insurance. How do I go about signing up for a plan? My understanding was that it is an option on the Tesla app. I assume because I haven't been assigned a vin yet that this is not an option yet.

Yeah, I'm sorta pissed about how that worked out for my Kia EV6. With the Model Y price drop, I could get that instead. Oh well, at least I don't need to wait.
I have EV6s (yes, two of them!) and I have to say it kicks Model Y butt in every department except for acceleration and charging network. I got lucky bought both vehicles before tax changes, so I will get tax credit for both. But even without tax credit, I think EV6 much better car and better value that Model Y.

1. I'd rather buy American. If all things were equal. Tesla was American?

Spoiler: Tesla Model Y and 3, based on place assembly and percentage of components made in US [and Canada].

You can get the insurance once you are assigned a VIN

PSEG EV program only covers installation charge, ie cost of getting electron to install, up to $1500. Doesn't cover actual cost of charger, however it requires you to purchase either ChargePoint or JuiceBox so they can meter your EV usage, and apply 0.02/kwh discount. You can also get 30% tax credit back from federal for the overall installation (labor + cost of charger), so all in all getting charger installed is almost free in NJ. Good luck.

Whichever charger you pick, it will cost ~$250 after incentives. The added benefit of JuiceBox or CharPoint is it works on all EVs, and the 0.02/kwh discount.

one should not be financing tesla atm due to high interested rate.. buy cash.. if u dont have cash.. dont buy the car.. whole point is to not spend extra on interest which will moot the entire point of a slick deal. 37k tesla 3 is a bargain
my thought on financing. The rate now is about 5%, the saving rate at Ally 3.3%. It appears to be if you have the fund but still chose to finance, technically you are paying 1.7% rate since you money is earning 3.3% at the same time.

so if i lost 20k in stocks, but made 70k at my job, i only get taxed on 50k right?
Someone may have already replied.
You can claim only 3K per year but carry it over, so it would take you around 16 yrs to claim 50K

If we are getting technical, the diff is between 3.3% + your effective tax rate, and 5%. So if you're in a 20% fed tax bracket, the 3.3% you earn will be reduced to 2.64%.

You can request a free quote. I'm still waiting on my confirmation delivery on my Y but I will also request that soon. I'm not sure if different states will have an impact on pricing either.

I myself bought a seven seater on Sat night with delivery between Feb-Apr. Anyone with seven seater got any exact confirmed delivery date who bought earlier than me.
