Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Isn't the model Y considered SUV and have the price cap of $80k for the tax credit?
No, only model Y with 7 seats considered SUV that qualifies for $80,000 limit for rebate.

They gave me a code for the mobile charger and I got the J1772 adaptor. Its definitely missing front camera or radar. I also got a price adjustment of 6k the day before it got delivered. Since I ordered before 3/14/22 I also applied for the clean vehicle rebate. Hopefully that comes through.
Can you elaborate on what the the price was when you placed the order and what the adjusted price was at delivery?

The lower trim is somehow a sedan and has a lower cap.

Yes and no. The Model Y with 7 seats has a $80,000 limit, but the Model Y with 5 seats only has a $55,000 limit.

Do they keep adding model y or is this done. Dont see any under 55k from yesterday (norcal)
This is another upcoming problem. With these rebates most of the cars with $55,000 or less are gone and inventory is stocking up with the higher price builds. Not sure how long will it be before another price adjustment comes - 1. Either more price cuts to get rid of inventory, or 2. Hike the prices so people are forced to buy 7 seater that qualifies as SUV for $80,000 limit.

Either way, get ready for fun.

I placed an order for mylr with the lowest trim on Saturday afternoon and the estimated delivery date is Jan to mar. and not been changed since. Anyone has a calculated estimate of possibilty of getting it by the beginning of March or the end? Can a person cancel and get $250 deposit back if the delivery goes beyond the initial estimated delivery date?

Depends on the miles and route

It's like a smartphone

You're not supposed to fully charge if you need continuous usage

You generally charge for 20-30 minutes n then continue driving

Even if we round up, the person you know stopped 8 times, 30 minutes each?

Superchargers usually charge about 200 miles per 30 minutes

If your friend was driving 1600 miles (30 minutes x8, your 4 hours) that's not unusual

They knew this going in buying an ev, doesn't matter if it's a tesla or some other ev

What's unusual is not stopping for the restroom, snack, or meal on a 10hr+ trip

That seems to be what you're implying
Also 1600+ miles in 10 hours is about 160 mph average presuming the numbers add up otherwise. Would love to hear more about this magical road trip!

"The maximum credit is $7,500. It is nonrefundable, so you can't get back more on the credit than you owe in taxes. You can't apply any excess credit to future tax years"
Can you help me understand the term "nonrefundable tax credit"? Does that mean I can only get the full $7,500 tax credit if I owe/withheld $7,500 or more in taxes for the year I purchase an eligible vehicle?

Have anyone compared the price differences before pandemic, during pandemic and now? I think the price cut is just to bring the price back to a "normal" level. Correct me if I am wrong.

I can live with that. And do a title transfer later. Just want to know the possibilities and complexity. Most of all, the delivery of the vehicle to a different state.
I believe you need to stay within NJ (could be just using NJ license & plate will get you away with it) for 2 years after the first day of delivery. Checkout the eligibility criteria for NJ $2000 clean energy rebate.
