Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

here in California the wait for using a Tesla charger can be long. I go to Lake Tahoe often and the Tesla chargers off the I80 at Truckee is often 3-5 people waiting in line for use. Thinking that's maybe 2+ hours or more?
I mean, weekends are going to be busy

Ev's need time to be charged

It's just part of driving a ev

If you know you are going on a long trip, know it's a busy weekend, and know you don't want to waste time charging an ev then... Consider another vehicle?

Tesla plans to "announce" these features. Knowing Tesla, they're already in the car. These radars penetrate foliage and plastics, so it's probably inside the bumper.

These rates are on first gen superchargers. There's many in California, but all the new ones are much faster.

Isn't that a straw purchase?
This is completely legal although in most states this will cause double sales tax unless OP is fine leaving the car in his father's name… in which case he's basically just borrowing dad's car forever.

There has to be more to this. You didn't take delivery for 10 months after your initial order? That CVRP rebate will either be good for you and everyone else (that qualifies), or not at all. It's based on delivery date, not order date. And what's the details regarding the 6K price adjustment, was it to bring it to current prices today?

That code for free mobile charger is interesting, as I've seen people on the Tesla forums mention that, but mostly were 2022 deliveries. Any 2023 deliveries still get that bonus?

Ordered March 14, it was delayed all the way till Jan 14, so I did wait. They offered me replacement ones in December but I declined. For the rebate it says on their site if it was ordered before March 16 it qualifies. Yes the 6k was to bring it down to todays pricing. So overall im happy it got delayed since I paid way less and will qualify for the 7500 tax credit.

I recently moved out of NJ a month ago. But I still have NJ DL. Any possibilities if I can get the rebate but get it shipped to the state I'm currently located at?
why don't u properly register where your current residence is at and get rebate from there.. nj rebate are only for nj resident.. when comes time for taxes.. you're going to have issues with the local tax franchise board and the irs.

Spoke to CVRP, rep told me tesla has already submitted application to become part of the program again. He thinks it'll be eligible again in about 1-3 months
I received the following response from CVRP staff which stated Tesla has not applied yet.

"Hello,

Thank you for your email. Vehicle manufacturers must apply for Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP) eligibility with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and meet a number of program requirements. If all program requirements are met, the vehicle is added to the list of eligible vehicles on our website. At this time, Tesla has not applied.

Please note: Certain plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) are only eligible for a rebate if they are purchased/leased on or after the vehicle eligibility date.

We cannot guarantee a vehicle will be approved by CARB and added to our eligible vehicle list. Therefore, if the rebate is an important factor in your decision to purchase/lease the vehicle, we recommend that you use your best judgment given the information provided on our website.

If you ordered a Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y on or before March 15th, 2022 the vehicle may still be eligible for the program. If you ordered your Tesla on or after March 16th, 2022, you are no longer eligible to apply for the program.

Tesla has been in contact with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and made this decision to remove themselves from the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP). CARB will not be adjusting their MSRP cap to allow Tesla vehicles to qualify for the program. No exceptions can be made to this requirement. All concerns regarding the MSRP increase should be directed to Tesla.

I encourage you to visit www.driveclean.ca.gov where you can perform a search based on your vehicle type and zip code to see if there are any other incentives available to you at this time. Thank you for your investment in clean vehicle technology."

You are very lucky to get the benefit of Tesla's price reduction, tax credit and most probably qualify for the Clean Vehicle Rebate.

Have anyone compared the price differences before pandemic, during pandemic and now? I think the price cut is just to bring the price back to a "normal" level. Correct me if I am wrong.
The base model 3 after incentives is under $37k. That's astounding considering the tax credit. Only like Q1 2019 folks got a slightly better deal than that, and adjusted for inflation and car quality (new models 3s have much more features and 30+ more miles of range) this is an all time deal.
